Albums With Overstated Acclaim?

the only correct answers for Beyonce would be 4 or BDay since they are her lower-scoring, but still loved (and highly regarded) albums...

I think ppl missed the point of the OP...

Blackout by Britney has a 61 on MC.

Born to Die has a 62

Born to Die wasn’t acclaimed upon arrival and no one claimed that.

It was huge on decade-end and via retrospective lists, though.

E•MO•TION could fit the criteria because I see a lot of gays praising it like it’s the second coming of Christ and for some reason I thought it was 90-something on Metacritic but it’s 77.

I do love it though!

Agreed!

Blackout is the only answer :rip:

Definitely Teenage Dream. Born to Die & Blackout both had negative reviews at the time, yes, but received a lot of actual retrospective acclaim that people claim Teenage Dream has received but it really hasn't.

I'm sure there are a lot of better answers too based on what stan twitter says but Teenage Dream is probably the best answer.

the way some people talk about anti on here I'd expect it to be 85+ but it's sitting at 73

So this excludes retrospective acclaim? Pet Sounds and Abbey Road would probably average scores in the 60s as well during their time, yet, they are some of the most celebrated albums of all time now

haha Renaissance is a SUPERB album. Def not overrated....

I personally find "4" to be overrated by a lot of Bey stans though.

But here are some, from each pop girl lol

Chromatica - personally i think its her worst album by a mile

4 - it's just missing a cohesive sound imo

Blackout - Brit sounds completely devoid on it

Fearless- I'll never understand how this won AOTY

SOS - CTRL is such a superior album lol

Chromatica (more specifically fan faves replay, enigma, 911) are among her worst songs period.

4 is my favorite Bey album but blackout is just noise and I don’t understand the hype it’s gotten on here as of late.

No they didn't :rip: Their point is that BTD has received retrospective acclaim and recognition for its impact, so calling it "acclaimed" is no longer an overstatement.

it was the most commercially successful album in the lineup (and the most critically successful, at the time), had the most industry sympathy after the VMAs and didn’t spilt the vote with any other albums.

From what was on the Grammys radar that year, I would’ve given AOTY to Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

Charlie Puth 2022 self titled sitting at 83 on MC, whilst Voicenotes is at 67. Clearly critics were playing catchup and overcompensating.
