Albums With Overstated Acclaim?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

What albums are made out to be more acclaimed than they actually are by gays? Certain albums are talked about in a way that would have one believe they're 90+ on Metacritic when in reality they might not even be 80+

I find Emotion to be rather generic but Dedicated is excellence.

haha Renaissance is a SUPERB album. Def not overrated....

I personally find "4" to be overrated by a lot of Bey stans though.

But here are some, from each pop girl lol

Chromatica - personally i think its her worst album by a mile

4 - it's just missing a cohesive sound imo

Blackout - Brit sounds completely devoid on it

Fearless- I'll never understand how this won AOTY

SOS - CTRL is such a superior album lol

Most are missing the point in OP.

an example would be Teenage Dream. The girls and the gays hype it up to be the pop bible but it was a critical failure. Obviously this was before poptimism crept in but even Katy’s following albums were all critical failures.

I guess I consider Blackout to be "critically" acclaimed in her catalogue lol compared to other albums...and it has been lifted as some sort of cult classic

Majority of Blackout's acclaim comes retrospectively though. Wbk it doesn't have a high MC score, it was released pre-poptimism and at a time when Britney was the media's punching bag. It's acclaim comes from the album's influence and frequent recognition from other artists, and it's critical reappraisal, such as being includes in the list of greatest albums of all time by publications like Rolling Stone and The Guardian, and being called "innovative" and a "blueprint" by Pitchfork.

Usually albums by artists, that get praised for Everything they released

even if it's worse than some "badly reviewed" albums by other acts

Blackout is an incorrect answer

Obviously Blackout.

E•MO•TION could fit the criteria because I see a lot of gays praising it like it’s the second coming of Christ and for some reason I thought it was 90-something on Metacritic but it’s 77.

I do love it though!
