This was sooooo hard. i love nearly all the songs in both categories but its so hard to deny MHWGO's greatness as a piece of work and a cultural touchstone as a member said earlier. As a song, it accurately tells the story the main characters go on and illustrates the loss and the power of the memory of love. Its instrumental and production is perfect too- forget that it was overplayed and 2000s critics made everyone thing it was the worst thing to come on radio. it was a beautifully written and composed song and do nottttt get me started on the sheer magic and stellar quality of Celine's voice. by a technical standpoint she sounds glorious but for s song she basically recorded in one take? just shows how the combination of musical excellence and natrual talent can create some of the best music ever so while it was hard to be so unanimous, Celine's signature tune takes both for me.

 

In ROTY Shania posed the biggest challenge as Youre Still the One makes me emotional everytime. its a perfect love song- sorta like MHWGO minus the tragedy. Brandy and Monica are great. Love ROL but Frozen would have made a more worthy challenger here.

 

SOTY has Lean on Me and in a world where MHWGO wasnt nominated, it would have gotten my vote for sure. I grew up with this song and its still on my playlists to this day.
