Whoopi pulls a Kim K, calls millennials lazy for not prioritizing starting a family

Well who will the state and the ruling class get to exploit if no one wants to have children anymore?

I echo the sentiments of the people in here telling her to mind her business and that we (should) own our bodies and be free to make decisions on whether or not to have children, but the reality is that none of us do. Our bodies belong to the state. It wants to control it as much as it can. That's just in its nature.

As long as we continue to live under the state this will remain true and we will continue to see similar statements popping up here and there.

Did I watch the same video as everyone else?  I didn't find anything wrong with what she said. :psyduck:

She literally said every generation is told you'll do worse than the previous, that each generation has/had its struggles, but at the end of the day, each has picked itself up and found its way in the face of adversity.

I also didn't find anything offensive about her comment, "If you only want to work 4 hours, you're not going to be able to get a house."  Some people are actually lazy and don't want to work, and then wonder why they have no money. :michael:

If I remember right, she was poor growing up and was raised by just her mother who struggled to provide for her and her brother.  She then worked her ass off in both comedy and acting to get where she is today.  Basically, nothing was handed to her.  She may be "rich" and have an easy cake job at The View, but she earned it.

This is SO delusional, I can’t believe people think this is the reality of the situation

In REAL LIFE most people work 40 hours a week and can’t get a house

You sound completely cut off

She was not saying this is the case for all millennials or everyone, just some.  And yes, there are people who work 40 hours a week and still struggle.  You're in control though, if you don't like it, you hold the power to change your situation.

To have to read this propagandized BS in the year of 2023. Well done.

What propoganda?

Whoopi had everything against her growing up.  She was poor, raised by a single mother, a woman, and not to mention black.  Just because she's rich and successful now doesn't mean she didn't struggle or work hard.

She's regurgitating what she and everyone else has been told by the media apparatus that only serves to reinforce the neoliberal agenda and tell you what to think, just like you did on the comment I quoted.

I did not say she did not work hard, but by telling people they need to do so in order to survive is simply ridiculous given we have all the resources to to guarantee that already yet they are kept from us by a class of people that do so in order to make us work for them so they can keep their massive wealth and priviledges.

No, we are not ''in control'', the state and the ruling class are and they keep you as a servant until they have no use for you any longer and then you'd be better off dead in their eyes. Please wake up. :gaycat6:

I mean, I don't see how because literally nothing she said was correct.

Also her audacity to say millennials and gen-Z only work four hours when that's not true and all she does is a one-hour show a few days a week that she doesn't show up to whenever she wants, and gets paid much more than anyone with a standard 9-5 will see before they turn 40 if they're lucky.

She technically said if you want to work four hours then it’s going to be harder, which is a fact if someone’s not providing for you. What she said is not a generational trait; theres plenty of Baby Boomers who felt the same. No one technically wants to work for something they’re not passionate about but if you do want something in life you gotta work for it. Suffering is inevitable and to assume that everything would be handed to you is naive; I’ve befriended people with money who would kill to have my bo-hum normie lifestyle because I don’t have to succumb to as many expectations as they do. The grass is always greener… unless you wanna piss on it I guess.

I love Whoopi but nah this is not it

Houses alone cost 4x as more as they did 20 years ago with salaries going up less than 2x

Why would anybody want to bring children into the world that your selfish generation destroyed, Whoopi?

Calling us lazy when (if we scale it), we are getting paid half of the value of what our counterparts in the 1980s would have been paid. Because your generation broke the economy several times and then stole all the junior-level jobs we needed back in 2008. We busted their humps trying to keep up and couldn't get ahead because the rules of the game entirely changed. Our collective shift in priorities and goals is perhaps not surprising when you turn your brain on. Now that we're finally finding stability professionally, a good ten years behind schedule, we're getting crapped on for not wanting to buy diamonds and houses.

What is it with other people having this fixation with other peoples’ reproductive rights/choices? It’s bad enough as a male having people like this say “when are you having kids”? When you don’t want any. I can’t even imagine the pressure/stigma women feel if they don’t want children.

Also, the current political, economic, and social divide (which is only getting worse) is making it harder and harder for regular people to live stable lives. People are having to make choices between paying bills or putting food in their mouths. People are sacrificing precious time with loved ones and doing things that actually make them happy in order to work more hours to be able to keep up with the constant financial pressure if life. We’re then told “you’re not working hard enough” and “pay more taxes” whilst the upper part of society are getting private jets and sitting on yachts. Oh, but don’t forget to use public transport as “we” (regular people) are ruining the environment using cars to commute to work. I digress, but you get the point.

Oh, and don’t forget… we must work all the hours humanly possible, whilst keeping ourselves fit, have a social life and hobbies otherwise we’re bon-idle and lazy.
