Whoopi’s comments weren’t for some of you posters here. You literally cannot have kids.

This really pissed me off while watching the show. These out of touch rich assholes don’t understand at all. It’s bizarre that the Republican on the panel was the only one pushing back on Whoopi’s bullshit.

I have mixed opinions. Our birth rates in the west are very low. A society needs children to survive. As a progressive I find it dangerous that conservative religious people have very high birth rates while progressives have low birth rates. Many countries in Europe are not overpopulated. Actually the opposite. I also believe that many Millenials and Z are lying when they say that they don't want to have children because of overpopulation or climate change. Let's be honest: many people don't want to have children because raising children is a lot of work. There is nothing wrong with that btw. Like others said, creating families shouldn't be our main purpose in life. Personally I don't have children and don't plan to have them. It's hard to find a partner for that especially in the gay community because gay marriage and adoption are still new. Maybe we as a society should allow artificial wombs.

I honestly think millennials and younger choosing not to have kids in increased numbers is partially a collective form of protest against the current state of the world on top of the other reasons. Basically a way for them to have some power and say the state of the world is not desirable enough for me to want to continue bringing new life into it.  So it needs to get better before I choose to do so. But it’s definitely not “lying” choosing not to have a kid because of the state of the world is acknowledging the truth about how things are looking which are bleak.  a lot of millennials/Gen Z are depressed af and that is a huge part of the childlessness.

Just when I thought I couldn't despise her more than I already do. Pure nonsense every time she opens her mouth, :deadbanana4:

I don't know who thought it would be a good idea to give her a platform to spew her idiotic takes, but she really should have just stuck to making more Sister Act sequels.

She sounds really stupid here. "Every generation had it hard" but did you consider that maybe some have it harder than others?

A lot of the other women were making good points until she spoke honestly. It's great to see more people waiting until they're financially able to have kids or deciding not to have them at all. I do find the whole "just freeze your eggs" angle a bit annoying though. Freeze them til when? No one wants to be a teenager with parents in an old people's home or dead. Not everyone is supposed to have biological kids and some people miss their moment and that's ok. You can always foster or adopt too

I actually long for the time I'm an old person and I can spew statements off the top of my head and act as though they're 100% based in fact. Give me that confidence

Im so tired of these sort of comments

Also this over focus in put all in boxes, gen this gen that... if u are in the world u are living it no matter ur gen

Tbh - and this is not me like coming at you - I do see your point, but my mom had me in her thirties and while she had other ongoing health issues, she's only in her early 60s while I'm in my late 20s. I do think waiting too long is ill-advised but honestly, even someone in their late forties would only be in their late 60s when the child turns 20. That's not so bad, and from what I see, most people who wait and change their minds usually do so in their forties.

I genuinely think some people become less human as they age, they literally lose their sense of humanity for others.

When did family planning, which is a PERSONAL thing, become the purview of random millionaires? Do these out of touch people not see that people are struggling SINGLE? In what world would struggling with kids be a better option?

Damn rarely the entire forum agrees in something :ahh:

She’s voicing the opinion of 95% of boomers out there. They just don’t get it.

And is not even all about money, I’ve been in a financial position to have a baby with either a woman or maybe with a man by other means

But I just don’t want it, at least not yet, it’s such a life changing decision to have a little human depending 24/7 on you, you dont have peace ever again

These boomers were popping babies like Taylor with her albums and re-recordings each year.

They are not really aware of the emotional investment that a kid requires.

We’re probably the first conscious generation in this topic.

But everyone is having children. I'm confused  :psyduck: All of my millennial acquaintances and family members already have children, except me, of course, the homosexual :gaycat6:

Girl shut up. I’m 30, make six figures, and still having difficulty finding a decent house since anything in a good neighborhood in my area starts at 400k. With no home equity and current interest rates (and despite good credit), my monthly payments will be approx $3000. How tf am I supposed to feed a damn child on top of that

I think whether or not you’re seeing milennials reproduce rn depends wildly on where you live, your friend group, your financial security, religious affiliation, cultural values, etc.  (idk the stats but I swear religious people procreate way more often than non religious people).

I live in a city, my friends are almost all late 20s-early 30s city dwellers. Barely any of us have long term relationships let alone children. We are too busy at work, just trying to find happiness and security in our own lives right now, and know children would completely uproot our lives. You have to be rich as **** to raise a family in the city and we’re simply not. we have good jobs & that’s still not enough for the comfort our prior gens had. It’s expensive as hell just to afford our studios/1 bedrooms & having a family would require going way outside the city & tbh I have no desire to live outside of a city as a gay man.
