Lol of course not. But let’s not pretend that the body positivity conversation didn’t happen when rush was released. If every single twink hadnt been shirtless I doubt the emphasis would have followed. If you naturally look younger that’s kinda unavoidable. When you act younger, surround yourself with people that look younger and then have them performing frisky choreo you’re normalising the “standard”. I’ve just been told his twink aesthetic is to appeal to his younger audiences who he’ll also no doubt influence, intentionally or otherwise. I don’t wanna really bring it down to p0rn - but in the last decade there’s been an increased emphasis on daddy/son, jock/twink, sun/Dom, femme lads are degraded as “sissy’s”, each of these en vogue scenarios implies a power dynamic. If you’re a young person seeing this as your representation and then seeing it in film, p0rn, music videos, dating sites and literature then evidently it’ll inform your viewpoint. My point is there are men out there that recognise this trend, and know how to take advantage of younger people who are able to be influenced, I’ve met some of them and they’re the lowest of the low. It’s not about Troye, or the other musicians that do this, nor is it about identifying as a twink, it’s about the wider impact this kinda thing has on mental health, the impact on what younger men think is “normal”. However my point stands if a forty something man on a dating site says he would like a woman to resemble a teenager and will only meet a woman who fits that category, people here would have a problem. As gay men we don’t question that nor it’s motivations.
