But nowhere in this era has Troye featured men of such age as an object of desire. He did play the twink role for the aesthetics. I partially believe because by the time his next project is out he will be 30, he’s been feeling a way about the dawn of his twink years (whatever that is). But all of the people featured in the videos were of similar age…. There’s no pedophilia normalization in his aesthetic (although its a problem in society, not only in the LGBTQIA+ community). I think you’re taking it as a literal accusation when actually what she’s saying is men in their twenties perpetuating this image and “playing that part” it’s normalising to younger gay men that they have to maintain this youthful image to be desirable. And younger gay men need to be a bit firmer with questioning why certain men of a certain age are only exclusively interested in twinks. My friend was seeing an older man for a couple years when we were seventeen. Older man was exclusively interested in twinks, was very forceful about my friend maintaining certain beauty standards etc. He dumped my friend when he hit a certain age and is now in prison for having it off with a fifteen year old child. My last word - Gay men owe it to themselves to age, without feeling insecure about it or worrying that they’re “past it”.

I fail to see how Troye has any relation to this when he is still a young gay men himself by real life standards (he’s in his 20s) and his “twinky” aesthetics is clearly to appeal to his young gay fanbase that mostly supports his music and can relate to the content. Nowhere in it has he introduced older men in the equation or the need to stay a certain way. It’s not a Call me By Your Name thing at all. If he continues to push this image in ten years you might be onto something, but right now it feels like projection. We can criticize the stereotypes he brings into his aesthetics without bringing serious issues he has zero to do with it
