zzmyth Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 TBH I thought Ren was not charting that high... so that is a great hold for Bey. Over a year later and still Top100. That is great. ANTI is a classic.

Alexz Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 Rihanna is a music artist and Beyoncé a fashion celebrity. Beyoncé only releases mid music as an excuse to tour. 1 6

Shocking HITS being the keyword. Radio is still playing Rihanna's non singles, the album's promo was a hot ass mess, and 3 music videos when Beyonce has released 3 Visual albums yet they aren't charting is crazy take on this

zasderfght Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 It's because you're up Rihanna's booty hole. 1

Then what other pop albums have had 0 music videos (and zero performances)? They may no longer be the necessary component to hit-making as they once were, but they still are valuable promo that has the power to turn people onto a song they may have overlooked. This is...music video marketing 101...to sell a song. If you don't have a music video, no matter how insignificant one thinks the effect may be, you are guaranteeing a zero boost from them.

swissman Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 ANTI is a chart mainstay. It is propelled by 2-3 big hits, but still it is very impressive for an album from 2016 to consistently have the consumption it does. That does not mean every other album released after will need to match it or exceed it or else be considered a flop or whatever other "read between the lines" inferences this thread and some of the people are trying to make. Messy rollout and lack of heavy promo as it may have had, ANTI still had several things going for it that allowed it to sink its teeth into the GP that RENAISSANCE lacks: music videos for its first three singles, a live performance (feat. Drake and SZA) of its lead single, and a live performance of its fourth single Love on the Brain. I don't presume to say that if RENAISSANCE had these things it would have outdone ANTI, but is it possible that having done more to showcase the music to the GP, that the album could be out-charting it this week? It's likely. RENAISSANCE barely had a third single.

I doubt a BRITS Awards performance from 2016 is the reason Anti is still charting on the American BB 200 seven years after release. And Love On The Brain was never performed post single release. Of course none of this matters as both albums are successes in their own right, and Bey did sabotage herself not dropping visuals or much else to promote her album, but Rihanna has had albums more intense promotion than Anti that didn't last that long on the charts. Her continued streaming power and that the album still resonates with the masses has more to do with Anti still charting than some 2016 Brits performance featuring Drake and Sza when Sza hadn't even released CTRL and was relatively unknown to the public.

I doubt it too, which is why I didn't imply that. I think you misunderstood my post. My point was about setting albums up for success, and how performances and videos help sell music to the general public who, if they like the material, will then consume the music and if they really like it, will consume it years after release. I could have just said that point blank without mention of Anti whatsoever, and the point would remain the same, but this thread is putting them together, thus I mentioned only forms of promo that Anti had. Without such promo, RENAISSANCE clearly lacked an opportunity to further sell its music to the GP by accessing them in these ways, and so my point is that if it had these things certain potential boosts to its hits and notoriety of its music as a whole, it might be possible it would now be charting 10 spots higher on the Billboard 200, making the statement of this thread obsolete. I am not intending to take anything away from Anti's success or explain it away. It's remarkable and I started by saying so. Edited November 7, 2023 by swissman
naval23 Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 Both stay winning with their most recent outputs wow
Fleahive Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 (edited) Seeing the Navy and Hive give each other love now that we know who the real haters are brings me so much joy. The tea is all hives are Navy and vise versa we just stan one a little harder than the other for our personal taste. We love Rihanna for creating her own lane and not trying to be a Beyonce wannabe like a lot of these other gworls. They truly will be the IT girls of our life time. Sadly it’ll be hard for another black female artist to really break through long term like they did because they perfected their crafts so well. Edited November 8, 2023 by Fleahive
