Taylor is far past the point of needing a "PR relationship".  She's having fun and dating.

Taylor is literally the last musician/celebrity that needs to create publicity stunts. She can break up with Travis, go incognito for a year, drop a new album and it will still sell over 1m in a week

Taylor's PR relationships have never been about "needing". PR for her is not about needing attention, it is about forming a narrative around her brand. Her brand is for women who believe in ~true love~ so her being with a hot, successful guy plays to that quite well. Every single detail about their relationship is being leaked to the press and only things her and the people around her would know are being leaked which points to her team doing it for PR.

Call it whatever you want but saying that this relationship "tremendously" boosted THEIR popularity (meaning, including Taylor) is a straight up LIE. Midnights will still sell over 6 million in just a year in the US, The Era's Tour will still gross over 1B, 1989 TV VER will still sell over 1M first week, The Era's Movie will still move hundreds of millions of dollars and Taylor will still be the most successful musician on the face of the Earth with or WITHOUT Travis.

 

So no, this relationship, whether you think is PR or not, has NOTHING to do with how big Taylor is right now.

Do you seriously think this relationship "tremendously boosted" Taylor's popularity  maybe Travis yes but Taylor? Seriously? Are you not aware of the records she broke and set a year before they even dated?

 

Doesn't matter if a lot of people talk about them, most of those people won't buy or stream her record anyway and only here for the tea and gossips.

I think two things can be true at the same time.

 

A. This is PR'd in the sense that her and her team know this relationship will be under the public eye. So to make the most of it, while I do believe their relationship is real, its become another way for her to improve and keep her celebrity at an all time high and expose her to markets/demographics resistant to her e.g. the NFL ppl

 

B. They really like each other and know it would inevitably snow ball into something this big, so they're obviously just having fun while still making sure only key details that paint them well in the public light get out (keeping their relationship still private too)

Boosted to what degree, exactly? She's not 15, 20, 30% more popular than when she was not with Travis last month or so. And in what area? Does this "boost" we are talking about one of the main reasons why 1989 sold over a mil in a week? What exactly is this boost we are talking about? Straight men podcasts and mysoginist football fans who would comment a thing or two but won't even stream or buy her albums? Sure she's more talked about right now with the Travis thing but this won't, in anyway shape or form, affect her career, especially outside the US, where Travis Kelce is a literal nobody. 

 

She's just more talked about among the american football fans and that's it.

It's because she is Taylor Swift. Whether she go to a sports show, be seen going inside a public rest room, lying on her stomach in a random park, publications will still document every single move of her. She just happened to date a local footballer right now.

 

It's all about her, always her and no one else. Who she dates right now is the one getting a boost in popularity. After all, it wasn't Taylor's merch shop that saw more than 100% boost when the relationship was announced. Those type of "boosts" are just regular Tuesdays to her

While I think they both really like each other, people saying Taylor doesn't need PR are delusional. OF COURSE she needs PR, that is literally her job. She is popular, but she needs to keep people interested in her, otherwise she would create a private relation, just like what she did with Joe.
