I remember when I first joined TikTok in like early 2020 a lot of their songs were big on there... I don't even think people like Charli D'Amelio realized they were dancing to City Girls songs... I'm glad that brand of rap is dying out TBH. Their shtick got old quick.

That's a good point. They were stuck in that one image. They don't have a Be Careful/Moment for life/Need to know type song that makes them viewed in another light for diversification. 

 

I hope they saved their coins. Well, Caresha will be fine with her allowance.

Sexxy Red is proof that female rap is not becoming less sexual, but it’s only shocking when it feels new. It’s not a City Girls-only problem tbh. A lot of the girls that came out and had hits during the late-2010s are being tested right now regarding their versatility and ear to change up their brand. City Girls were always one note, as much as I find them charismatic. COVID kinda killed their hype, because their last album deserved way better than it got, but it came out during lockdown. Now they failed to adapt their brand and it’s only downhill musically from here.

This type of of rap isn’t dying out, it’s just never been really mainstream/global. This type of rap was always cute for the clubs. The only female rapper that went mainstream/global with this type of imagery was Lil Kim, and then Nicki (although Nicki’s was a little bit playful). Rap like this always stayed local, a la Trina, Khia, etc. They may get 1 or 2 hits that get mainstream attention but their overall careers and brands stay local.

The male fanbases never support the female counterparts. Drake fans aren’t by and large supporting Nicki, same with Offset/Migos supporting Cardi, Quavo/Migos supporting Saweetie, etc. Hip hop is so homophobic that bumping to pretty women is seen as gay. Nicki’s most coveted songs in the heterosexual hip hop community all got men on it. LAN is miles better than Seeing Green, Truffle Butter, Only, Monster, etc but the hetero men don’t check for that.
