But that doesn’t mean not use them for work now

Nothing. It only became an issue because Peter Dinklage made a fuss and acted like these types of roles were beneath actors with dwarfism. But a lot of unknown actors called him out. Disney was being incredibly reactionary. They did it to seem progressive but no one thought for a second having seven little people actors in a big budget film was progressive enough. People always say they want something new but in the end they wanted the live action to be frame by frame the same as the animated original.
