Would life be easier without libido?

Recommended Posts

Sexual urge, libido, sexual desire, sex drive, sexual impulses can be extremely painful and stressful for human beings in general.

They are the root of all evil IMO.

Our sex life should be more like in the movie AVATAR.

I'm tired of being so sexual.

Do you agree?

I think when Freud coined the term libido and linked the unconscious drives to sexual power, he made a mistake because he was too focused on what was happening during his time (speaking of the psychological condition of his patients). I am more supportive of a more Jungian approach in which he claims libido is not only sexual power but its life power.

If I come back to your question from a Freudian perspective, then you are correct in identifying that libido is the root of "evil". Hence, you should focus on the conflicts between your unconscious drives. Resolving these conflicts, or only even being aware of them can make a huge impact in your life. From a Jungian perspective, no, libido is life energy and is much more than sexual fantasies and drives.

But most importantly from an ATRLer point of view, YES. We should ban the roof as well, especially after that criminals thread :gaycat1:

How do you know what the Na’Vi’s sex life is like? We only get a small glimpse. Plus, they have a **** ton of kids in Avatar 2 so we know they’re ******* all the time. :rip:

Absolutely. My libido is on the low end and I've seen multiple friends ruin their entire lives for some dick and then be like "once you meet a man like that you won't have a choice it's how we're wired :monkey:

Excuse me sis but who tf is WE

Their sex life is certainly not vulgar like ours.

They connect their tails and bond for life. No kinks, no cheating, no getting horny while seeing other people.

It's beautiful, it's more spiritual and intimate.

James Cameron confirmed that they have genitals. They just connect their cords to bond, it’s not their actual sex.

Okay, the point I was trying to make is that they choose a partner for life, and remain loyal forever according to the movie.

That's it.

Yeah I get you. I think the pushing of polyamory as an orientation has been pretty bad for relationships.

I think you’re onto something…

but think about it, all of our ancestors were wired to do is to reproduce… that’s literally the only innate thing that every being possesses no matter how small…we’re “meant” to pass on our genes and survive….without that drive/aspect, is one even a being? what’s the point of survival then without that?

things can get mad depressing with this subject

But it's also innate in us to be horny and extremely sexual tbh.

It's a human thing. I hate that. I wish things were different.

Yeah this has been a real struggle for me lately now that I’ve been single for a bit. It’s at the point where It’s hard to not have it dominate my everyday thoughts just seeing guys out and about :rip: pair this with the non desire to actually hookup/hangout with guy at the moment and you got an annoying recipe.

I understand that.

I wish all humans could get pregnant regardless of their gender by touching hands, bond with one person for life without needing to search for something else.

But our brains are so wired to have sex all the time is crazy.

For us gays things can get tougher and complicated as well.

I believe that with a sense of balance and boundaries in mind, there shouldn’t be much of an issue with maintaining a healthy libido (in theory).

But personally, though… I can’t even begin to elucidate on how many friendly relationships I’ve had that descended into utter nonsense from an expectation of sexual intimacy JUST out of a platonic conversation. It’s more of an individualized issue, but all I’d like at the moment is a friend, sans the benefits. Outside of the depths of my own psyche, I’ve seen too many instances of an overactive libido completely decimating meaningful connections and relationships (with quite a few hitting too close to home for me), and it honestly scares me a bit to even entertain that level of bondage without some sort of emotional/spiritual intensity to preface the idea of physicality.

TL;DR:

While I don’t believe that it’s inherently malignant, the excess and expectation of such can RUIN TF out of a vibe over here. There’s more to a connection than being plucked and/or stuffed.

It’s an important part of life. If we take sex away then life itself would be very bland….

I’ve learned to discipline myself. Sometimes I have sex every weekend and sometimes I go a month or 2 without. Just depending on my mood.

It has not personally been an issue for me in the past few years. I jerk off when I’m horny and then I can make smart decisions. I don’t hook up with strangers any more and I don’t feel a big urge to do it. It’s very vapidd and almost always unsatisfying to have sex with strangers anyways. I’m just looking for sex in a relationship now, and I don’t have any problem going for months without it. I think excessive porn consumption and easily available anonymous sex has really done a number on some peoples’ brains and is causing them to make terrible choices but it’s possible to dial it back and get your brain back to a normal level.

kind of

last night i had a date and made out with him for three hours straight, and then i had a hookup with a really hot guy (who looked like if Rihanna was a guy LOL)

it's always an issue for me, and I brought it up in therapy today, and like how I wish we lived in a more sex-positive world and that i feel alone sometimes somehow...

however, at the same time, I'm happy with having as much sex as I have and I don't want to change myself for anyone. I just got out of a sh*tty two month relationship where this dude was expecting me to change, so I'm choosing myself, and I've learned to live with my libido, even though it's been intense sometimes. I also don't think it's the root of ALL evil, but definitely more than people sometimes think it is. that's the wild juxtaposition in general attitudes towards sex. I remember learning about the libido and how Freud coined it back in a psychoanalysis class, I should look back into that sometime soon...

Yes. I don't have that big of a sex drive, I'm kinda in the asexual spectrum so I notice a lot how other people make messy decisions just for being h0.rny :toofunny3:

I went through a couple months when my test crashed and I had to go onto TRT and I will say that it made my day to day much easier to not have to deal with any of the distractions that come from libido, but I really felt like something was very wrong with me and I felt empty not having that desire.
