jomarr Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 Vampire was perfect. BIR is great though but as a lead I don’t think it would work

glitch Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 Vampire was the correct choice. It sounds similar enough to her debut so as not to alienate any of her original fans. The mistake people often make with a sophomore era is a drastic sound change. I think that can work later on in someone's career but for the first couple of albums you need to play it kinda safe.

Its grown on me a bit but I thought it sounded like flaming hot **** the first time I heard it Vampire was a safe song that most people would like.
NumbSoul Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 He kinda served taste But at the same time, I don't think it would've been as big of a lead as Vampire was. It would've been kinda nice to space out the uptempos as singles though, if it went BIR - Vampire - GHB.
BlackStar_93 Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 (edited) Vampire was a perfect choice, imo. It bridged the gap between her old and new material. Vampire’s longevity and numbers simply show it was the right decision. Also, whilst I like BIR, it’s very abrasive/gimmicky and is very gen Z/tick tock era. Vampire has much wider appeal and despite being a ballad, it’s very catchy and still has a beat to dance to. Edited October 11, 2023 by BlackStar_93
OnlyManInTheWorld Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 It's her best song. He was right. The only problem is that the GP would never appreciate this pop perfection.
Galah Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 I think "vampire" was the right first taste of the album, but they shouldn't have marketed it as the lead. That said, while I love "bad idea right?" too, it doesn't really give me lead single vibes either. "get him back!" would have been a better transition between hopeless romantic Olivia and sarcastic baddie Olivia imo.
Bosque Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 Love the song but it would've tanked so hard ATRL is quite out of touch
Støned Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 bad idea right? is an amazing song, but the lead single should’ve been the ballad of a homeschooled girl.
Slate Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 Love BIR but they made the right choice choosing her best song

enchanted0 Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 The label did what they had to do --- Vampire is clearly a lead single material and meanwhile BIR is fantastic it's not THAT GP friendly. And get him back is not good at all, I knew it won't be a hit the first time i heard it so.. Give her some break and semi re-launch the era with love is embarrassing

Cryptique Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 tbh, bad idea right? is my favorite GUTS song now even tho it started lukewarm in my books that said, vampire is still the best lead material from the album
Angelo Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 I can't believe that Olivia wanted to release "Teenage Dream" first. What a way to kill an era.
