American Life > Confessions

You not wrong with this one. Confessions is the most overrated album on ATRL, and I say this as a Madonna stan.

It has good songs don't get me wrong (particularly Would'Ve Could've Should've which is a career highlight, I hope it will get the Cruel Summer treatment someday) but the low points are atrocious and these awful songs absolutely don't fit the description of the album in her letter, which makes them even worse.

I do think her letter hyped me too much, but when I red "This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams" best believe I did NOT expect atrocities like Vigilante **** or Bejeweled

I mean, there’s not much on the album that doesn’t check out as something that ostensibly would’ve kept her up all night at some point in her life/career? Just because she dressed some of them up as fun pop songs doesn’t mean that they still didn’t tie into the theme.

Bejeweled alludes to a relationship that plays out a lot like the 6.5 year one she just left, and it isn’t a coincidence that Vigilante Sh*t basically directly references a certain someone’s circumstances.

I think Midnights is her most personal album to date tbh. Aside from Snow On The Beach and Paris, there’s not a song on the album that doesn’t tie to some “Taylor lore” in some way.

Artpop really was underwhelming(for Gaga standards at the time).

The only reason it gets praise today is because people have an emotional attatchment to Gaga as a celebrity because she built her fanbase upon hits like "Poker Face", "Bad Romance", etc... and people have a nostalgic attatchment to the idea of Gaga as a celebrity and the music she made.

It seems that Artpop gets praise from people who don't vividly remember Gaga's peak, but I think the OG Little Monsters knew it wasn't that great. The bar for pop music is so low nowadays that even Artpop sounds amazing to Gen Z ears.

This is true. It wasn’t great.

Taylor's impact can only be measured in numbers.

When I think of Katy, the first thing that comes to mind is "What were people thinking back then?"

Renaissance is rubbish, especially coming after ST and Lemonade which were really great.

Doja can be annoying/too much at times, but she has the talent and drive to make it long-term.

Lana Del Rey is better than all your faves [2]

I love Dua, but she won't be able to rely on the cool factor forever.

Beez In The Trap was ahead of its time.

Last week I said I was happy to see some artists flop and some people thought it was very bad of me.

But seeing the lack of success of some artists really do make my day better.

Im just saying what all of you feel!

Sky Ferreira is more talented than Lorde and Lana, but the music industry hates outspoken indigenous women.

It gets praise now ? Funny how that changes.

There's a reason why Gaga never truly committed to electronic influenced pop again, the ARTPOP backlash must've been ruthless. She wanted a we love her again-narrative, but she just became a joke instead, even to fans.

I like the album tbh, I knew it wasn't that good when I heard it, but I love the over the top moments :gaycat2: She didn't give a f*ck

Why would people pay to see someone they disrespect? That doesn't make any sense to me. Why didn't her peers like Janet get the same treatment? Why couldn't the most popular acts at time such as Lady Gaga, Katy Perry or Rihanna outgross someone who got disrespected? Madonna at her 22nd year into career scoring a global SOLO smash, while Gaga hadn't had a SOLO smash from her own studio album since 2013, just 5th year into career. Why? Isn't she respected by the GP?

What does the music industry have to do with women who don't release music?

Blackout sounds like a collection of demo presets from a mid range 2004 Yamaha keyboard and was out of date one year after its release. Gays tried to gaslight everybody into thinking that it was revolutionary or whatever, but that record is nothing more but an another product of that cheap RnB-tinged mid-2000s sound rather than the trailblazer of late 2000s electropop heard in The E.N.D, Animal, The Fame etc, seeing as they are sonically very much distinct from the aforementioned album.

Just say something a bit negative about Gaga and thats enough. That fanbase can’t take any kind of criticism. YOU CAN’T EVEN ASK FOR A NEW ALBUM like wtf is wrong with that fanbase :deadbanana: imagine being so defensive because her fans ask for new music. “She is allowed to do what she wants get a life :juanny:“

:bibliahh:They SPILLED!!

Although, I'll actually say that the base here is a lot more open to honest discussion than her fansite. That place is full of jazz enthusiasts, who want to replace every pop fan with retirees who buy makeup, luxury watches, and pain pills. What are they going to do if all the liddos take their advice and do unstan? :rip:

I listened to it for the first time in 2021 and I truly do not understand why people talk about it in such high regard.

It does. I don't understand why. It's regarded by a lot as an experimental record, which I think is very ironic considering it followed a lot of EDM trends at the time and I think it is her only album released that you can tell exactly when it was released. I found it terribly disappointing and was the beginning of the end of me being a Gaga stan.

Another one: Bad Bunny's music is terrible and trashy, it's worse when you can actually understand the lyrics.

Beyonce's discography after 4 was more about hype, image and "message" than music. Her peak was 4.

I don't know if it's something I could get reported for but I'm kinda tired of Swifties overrating Taylor's current (impressive) success. Like, I lived through Britney's peak, Gaga's peak and Adele's peak and Taylor's isn't all that different and where I live (Europe) she certainly isn't on par with Gaga and Adele's peaks (I was a bit too young to fully grasp Britney's peak 1:1).

Like, we get it. She's the biggest one right now. Don't have to call her the next MJ or anything like that since no female has come close to what he achieved.

99% of straight performers use the gay market as a shoe in for everlasting success. they're using you for promotion, wasting your money on mass buying, extremely expensive merch, 12 versions of the same album. It's not about the music anymore. It's about rallying the gays to fight for them and charging 200$ to buy a Walmart quality sweatshirt. They don't care about us, look at who they surround themselves with.

Yall aren’t even saying reportable opinions anymore. Someone needs to come in here and really SHAKE the table.

I’ve only been successfully reported for dragging Troye Sivan and I’m tempted to do it again but gotta let these points expire first!

If I come across someone attractive on social media or a dating app and see they’re a swiftie, little monster, or barb it’s an immediate scroll. You can be a fan but if it’s clear you’re a stan and they’re all you post about on your social media then I assume the worst about you. Sorry!
