alejandreaux Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 unlike most of the “surprised?” threads on here, this is actually genuinely shocking if someone would’ve said 2 years ago that this would happen, they legit would’ve been reported for trolling. 1 4

I understand that Xtina can be jealous and having nasty attitude towards her peers like Britney, Beyoncé, Pink or even Madonna but to an innocent kid on the voice like Melanie is just pure evil. ontherocks Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 On the other hand, Portals left the BB200 after 21 weeks.

Orsay Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 Scarlet will still probably end up charting longer. Idk about Ed’s bomb though
Digitalism Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 First week sales is such a dumb instrument for measurement of success Look at the streaming numbers. No song on the Melanie album is above 100m streams. Her fans bought the album and put it on a shelf
Relampago. Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 Not really, she has a solid fanbase and Doja is a GP dependent artist. But PORTALS was an interesting era and I think it rightfully garnered a bit of attention

Ed vinyls were not released on release week that is the only way it can count for Billboard for debut numbers. ? Literally every record store i’ve visited this week has Ed’s album on vinyl. It was available on Amazon too I’m pretty sure
Just a Gay on ATRL Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 Melanie hadn't released in a while and has built a strong connection to her fanbase. I thoroughly believe Doja's fanbase comments contributed to why her album is doing so awful vs. PTTR

Attention is the lead single struggling to surpass 50m. First week sales are important it shows the interest of your main people. More sales and more weeks can only happen if you have singles on the radio. 1
unclefloprry Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 wow she can probably do a stadium tour like Ed or at least an arena tour like Doja. Ugh, I forgot that mass buying doesn't represent real demand, that happens when a fan buys an album 10 times.
needs Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 I think we're in an era where it's much more about having a fanbase than it is topping charts and being relevant among the general public. That's too fickle to rely on and we see with someone like Melanie Martinez that honing a dedicated fanbase will take you far. 1
B-Luke Posted October 9, 2023 Posted October 9, 2023 Left the BB200 after 21 weeks though. Doja will have a longer stay
