Many wanted to write her off. However, Melanie Martinez's PORTALS debuted with 143k earlier this year. A pretty solid debut despite very minimal industry support or radio presence. 

 

Two of the biggest acts currently are Doja Cat and Ed Sheeran, who have tens of millions of monthly listeners and occupy nearly every spot on the biggest playlists after releasing an album. Despite their A-list status and industry support, Doja Cat and Ed Sheeran latest albums sold a underwhelming COMBINED 138k first week

Doja Cat kinda hit the last straw with that neo-nazi stuff for many people. I think once PTTR dies down, her career will look completely different.

Both Doja & Ed didn’t have physicals release week while Melanie did. That helps big time. 
 

Melanie was performing everywhere while Doja didn’t lift a finger as well.

She has the creativity and interesting visuals that Doja has and musical talent that Ed has, so it makes perfect sense.

 

Melanie might not be a big celebrity like Doja but she has the fanbase that Doja doesn't have, and thanks to her new attitude, will never have.

I just checked but ed actually did 62.5k of which 46.5k is pure. Are u sure he did not have vinyls cause that amount is high compared to the total numbers for there to be no physical copies
