Distantconstellation Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 (edited) Seriously when will they let it go? Its been 20+ years. Why isnt pop music or another genre taking over. I never hear popular salsa, bachata, merengue, or pop tracks in latin music anymore :/ Edited October 6, 2023 by Distantconstellation 2 1 4
GentleEarthquake Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 Bc we don't know better and fail to make progress in many aspects. 2 1
PoisonPill Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 (edited) It’s not even a genre, it’s just the same best layered under every song. I just… don’t get it. Edited October 6, 2023 by PoisonPill 2 1
G.U.Y. Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 WhY iS rAp StIlL pOpUlAr In BlAcK mUsIc? WhY iS rOcK sTiLl PoPuLaR? There is a ton of fetishizing, xenophobia, racism, colonialism and illiteracy around some reggaeton "criticism" out there. 1 13
getBusy Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 (edited) Why is pop still popular in white music? Edited October 6, 2023 by getBusy
WokeEqualist Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 because it's what poor people listen to and there are lots of poor people in latam 1 4 7
Trent W Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 Because it’s not only a genre it’s culture Just like hip-hop/rap is to the black community I made peace with it, like there’s no point on criticizing it I’m hispanic and I don’t like reggaeton but there’s no point in criticizing it 1

Bhabylon Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 Just say you don't know how to dance and go 1 1
Scars Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 People saying reggaeton isn't a "genre" are so ignorant, just say you don't know music beyond the Spotify Global chart and go. OT: Because young black hispanics, especially from Puerto Rico (and Panama), did the damn thing, along with black brazilians with brazilian funk back in the 90s to this day. The entire region is very influenced culturally-wise by the art crafted by the local working class black youth. The white/white-adjacent mestizo middle class girlies and their corny classist snob attitude could only wish.
Lorenzo22 Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 because it's what's played in clubs, parties, etc. i don't like reggaeton but i'll still shake my ass to it in parties

Relampago. Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 Dumb thread Reggaeton legends like Chencho Corleone, Daddy Yankee, Wilsin & Yandel, Zion & Lennox, etc are still capable of making bops in ways other girls struggle to so long into their careers. Bad Bunny, Rauw Alejandro, J Balvin, etc. all helped to keep the momentum going and ushered in another era of revival. It’s just a timeless genre of BOPS with artists who are talented and can keep the BOPS coming. Not that hard to understand. On a site where people force themselves to like the most bare bones, phoned in pop albums ever, I would hope girls would have more self awareness. 3
needs Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 Furthermore reggaeton is culturally significant and deeply intertwined with Latin American musical identity. Let's maybe show some respect for that storied history lol.
reputaoty Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 honestly im tired of it where's the pop where's paulina where's thalia
Ricanaire Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 Reggaeton is that girl. The Riddim is iconic.
