I actually enjoyed his new album, it can potentially become my go-to album this autumn

People need to leave him alone. He might be a tad smug, but he doesn’t seem like a bad guy at all. His wife went through cancer while his last album was flopping and everyone was dragging him. It just feels cruel now.

Ya I don't listen to him but some people need to touch grass. Just don't listen if you don't like it. :rip:

That's what they all say. The label cares tho.

i remember him saying that the only person who can outsell him is Adele and he don't know she can do that

Didn’t Taylor say something like her and Ed compete with each other on the charts & who sells more? Or was it him who said it

Anything sales or competition wise vs anyone.. it’s always been ed

That’s probably why he released this one independently haha

I don’t understand why ATRL hates Ed so much. He’s really not a bad guy and he’s had some good albums. “=“ was pretty bad, but I think he realized that trying so hard to recreate the same formula that made you a superstar isn’t always the best path to take, and since then his music has actually been good again.

It was Ed who said it. He said said they had friendly competition because it would strive them to do better. He also admitted that he was much more chart obsessed than probably anyone else in the business. Obviously, I don’t think he’s that way any longer.

He could had flopped with dignity had he put out an acclaimed album but unfortunately for him, it’s a flop commercially and critically. It doesn’t get worse than that! He has no one to blame but himself. He still is trying to make smash hits rather than just paying attention to the actual ART!

He literally has done the same kind of interviews when he was gearing up to release No. 6,

It's one of the easiest tactics to brand a project before it does the thing you think it will do. And if people actually do make it a succes, then he can act all suprised and 'grateful' etc.

he's so obsessed with charts and validation... he knows he's washed up

I still don't think he's over commercially. He'll come back with some radio friendly song and do a full radio/press tour, posters everywhere etc and get another hit.

I'm in different to this man - his comments he made at his peak were gross. Happy for him or sad that happened or whatever.

He had tremendous success for so long, it doesn't really matter if he underperforms commercially now. People (especially users here) have this weird idea that you have to be successful for multiple decades or you're a flop. Really messed-up way of thinking.

This crazy coming from you given how obsessed you are with dragging Beyoncé :deadbanana2:

but seriously why do you have so much grace for Ed Sheeran but turn around a call someone who’s more iconic and successful than him a flop?

He also has some GREAT songs when he does it right - if a pop girl sang shape of you we’d say it’s an iconic bop lbr

No matter who would sing it - it would always sound like an unfinished demo.

I was confused about what album you guys were talking about, and just saw he came out with a new album today :rip:

Its not like he needs major success anymore hes set for life with his hits

Well, what if he doesn't care about his music underperforming now? Artists can only be chart obsessed for so long. Also, he's never had a strong fanbase and was too reliant on the GP so I'm guessing he obviously saw it coming

Which smash hits is he trying to make? The whole music he released this year sounds straight from his 2011 era, not something that breaks the charts nowadays :dies:

Not him booking a TV interview to say he doesn’t care about commercial success. :gaycat6:

I feel like I’m in the twilight zone. Nobody would care if he was flopping if didn’t make himself the poster child of an artist who camps out on Kworb’s website, refreshing every 30 minutes, and keeping up with every tiny little stat throughout his entire career… of course people are going to come back and say “well well well…” when he starts flopping. He set himself up YEARS ago and continued with that persona until he began flopping.
