Angelo Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Last Era: (UK Charts) I’ll Be There - #1 All I Am - #7 Thursday - #3 New Era: Silly Me - Did not chart What Do you Do? - Not charting at the moment What’s up? I think she’s talented.
Duanielipa Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Every UK female pop artist has 1-3 successful eras then gets completely dropped for no reason and flops into oblivion. This has happened so many times before. 11 1
Binxstan Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 She failed to build up a fanbase and relied on the GP for her hits. A couple of bad PR disasters and they dropped her as they do with most females after a couple of eras = nobody to consume her music. 1

The only thing I can recall that got people mad was her asking "What's Future Nostalgia?" The Brits are very cruel to a lot of female recording artists, they'll have 2/3 massive eras and suddenly they'll be considered uncool... Cheryl, Rita, Leona Lewis, Duffy etc. It's such a strange fate...

lacy Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 As a brit, it felt like she was just... on the radio... and no one really knew why, but everyone assumed that someone else somewhere else was enjoying it 1 3

Bad attitude, transphobia, unprofessional, annoying British GP with her bland music, broke Cheryl's record of being the British female artist with most number ones etc. Edited September 29, 2023 by ithinkheknowsoutsold 3
MingYouToo Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 (edited) The UK market has this weird behavior where they will stream, support and give chart longevity for female artists if and only if theyre just as, if not, bigger, in other markets like the U.S. Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, etc. have all lasted 5+ years with countless UK hits but it should also be noted that theyre also big in markets like Australia and the U.S. i dont know if its explainable but its a clear trend/phenomena, Billie, Olivia, Doja are all still being supported after 3-4+ years of being in the mainstream and theyre big outside of the U.K. I really dont know why they drop their local popstars like hotcakes Edited September 29, 2023 by MingYouToo

Britain has a very fast turnover in terms of both the singles chart and debut of new artists due to it geographically and culturally being the middle point between American music and European music, so artists don't really get a lot of time to stick around. 4

But it seems that if they don't get the fan base for thenselves after that they drop them. It's up to the artist then to do it by themselvels

Her days of tyranny are finally over! Spoiler I will say this though, the chorus of Silly Me plays in my head every now and then.

Now that I think about it, that's a valid point... I can't think of that many examples but that's probably just down to the fact I rarely (if ever) listen to male artists. But here's obviously an additional layer of cruelty when it comes to women - remember when Cheryl dropped Love Made Me Do It? All anyone could talk about was how different her face looked.
Yawn Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 girl.. not all the rants about her doing something ~wrong~ for the geepee to drop her, but then people listing a bunch of random things that no one knows about her sexy fish was her biggest cultural moment and that was more of a meme so might have maybe made her a bit of a joke that no one took seriously she just took long breaks, had zero celebrity presence and never built up a fanbase or brand for herself. very much a product of her time, by featuring on UK-centric dance songs when that was trendy. simples. 1
Mr. Blue_Shirt Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 It's really wild for someone who had 7 number one hits in UK chart, her new singles didn't even enter the chart AT ALL It's like people just... completely dropped her out of the existence At least UK pop girls who suffered from commercial slump usually still able to chart their new singles at the bottom of top 30
Fastlane Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 I remember Pixie Lott case, she was huge in UK and then has just drooped.
Popboi. Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 The public is actively saying no to her, she’s still getting as much airplay and promo as when she had her string of #1s but can’t even dent the top 100.
teenager Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 (edited) honestly surprised she lasted as long as she did with the pop girl curse in the uk. she’s talented but her music is beyond generic and she relied on radio and the gp. don’t think I’ve ever heard someone say “I love Jess Glynne!” she’s just a faceless pop girlie that made catchy music that was accessible to everyone and dass it Edited September 29, 2023 by teenager

Sam Smith (non-binary now but you get the point), Callum Scott, James Arthur, Shayne Ward, Olly Murs, the One Direction boys minus Harry etc. and those are just the names at the top of my head. 30 minutes ago, Peroxide said: But here's obviously an additional layer of cruelty when it comes to women - remember when Cheryl dropped Love Made Me Do It? As someone who had built her career up on her beauty and looks, changing the most significant aspect of yourself to the GP was never going to help her cause. It's a shame though, Let You was a bop and had it not been for Love Made Me Do It's failure I think the former could've seen major success.
Alldeezy Posted September 29, 2023 Posted September 29, 2023 Dua lipa kinda came outta no where and they were both two alike
