Cupcakke Doesn’t Need Samples. Surprised?

Despite being in the hip hop genre and releasing multiple mixtapes and albums the rapper has only used a single digit number of samples across her discography. Does she deserve more credit for her avoidance of sampling in a sample obsessed world?

???? Her work isn’t selling so no, she doesn’t deserve “more credit”…the only way you could argue that was if she had hits/work that sells.

She debuted in the streaming era, and has certified singles as an independent artist.

Samples are expensive. This isnt the old days where you make a mixtape to flex for your competition. You made no money off those mixtapes unless you were outside broadway/Lafayette putting CDs in peoples hands and tricking them into buying it.  She wanted to monetize those mixtapes so she couldn’t use a sample.

She can’t afford to clear them

She cleared a Britney sample on her debut album. She just doesn’t need to use them.

nowhere in the OP did it say she was massively commercially successful so idk why some people had to immediately deflect to sales. that wasn’t the point at all :rip:

anyway yes, clearly she and her producers do what they can to maximize her INDEPENDENT art :clap3:

talent and ownership of her material >>>

Because she's a true artist that ends a lot of our faves effortlessly lol. Give her just a tiny percentage of budget some of the big girls get and she'd be a unstoppable

And y’all gotta bring up samples when discussing artistry and act like using samples makes you less of an artist. It’s stupid.

Every last one of your faves has a Cupcakke remix of one of their songs. Surprised?

Exactly! She's literally in every remix. Personally, I think she deserves a-lot of credit. :jonny:
