Why are people saying she doesn't have a fanbase as big as Cardi or Meg? In the past 3 years, she has had 11 multi-platinum hits. Her last album alone spent 8 months in the top 10 of the Billboard 200. And overall this is her 4th studio album while Cardi only has 1 and Meg only has 2. In addition, she gets more exposure by regularly transcending 3 different genres while Cardi and Meg primarily stick to one. I always thought her fan base was pretty vast considering she always seemed to be a stream queen + I am always seeing topics about her breaking records. If her fan base is really that small considering all of that, it's a bit shocking to me.

That's the thing though, very little of that success was actually carried by a fanbase per say.

Planet Her connected big time with the GP. Those singles were radio staples, they were on playlists galore, random people were bopping to Woman and Kiss Me More and Need to Know. But those people weren't really checking much for Doja as an artist as much as they just loved those songs. Pop stans were there too, loving the songs and the visuals that went with them.

These songs just didn't connect. Yes it is by nature that they're not more friendly to the GP's ears, but that's where a fanbase would be necessary to carry. She does have stans, but I don't think her fanbase is as wide and deep as the numbers on PH suggested. We're seeing with her what we saw with Katy and that's someone who hit it really big with the GP and then when they started putting out songs the GP didn't like, their success kinda fell out from underneath them.

The difference is I think Doja is capable of getting them back, but whether she'll actually do it is another story.

Most of her fans are women who like her pop and r&b stuff.  Her fans don't like actual rap music, listened once and that was it for them.  This album was supposed to help her cross over to actual hip hop listeners but they don't take her seriously. After Attention flopped she should have have done some Urban promo, released something for that audience, maybe a feature. But her label made her release a pop song that's being played on pop radio. The album doesn't match.

What pop song did she released after Attention?

Just because PTTR is Super Popular doesnt mean it's a "POP" song.. aside from the hook, she was serving em bars and flow, what u saying POP?

PTTR is for all intents and purposes a typical Doja Cat pop-rap hybrid that wouldn't have been out of place on Planet Her

back to calling herself the n-word for white men's rights activists on video chats for this self hater soon enough

Crazy that people are so oblivious about that part of her history/personality.

Even her current boyfriend fits her fixation with those Reddit's men's rights activists/Red Pill incels. :dies:

Yessss at Olivia going back to #1. The album is amazing.

Doja’s album was simply terrible. Going from Planet Her to this…was simply a choice. Maybe it’s the lack of that producer, a la Katy Perry situation.  :coffee2:

Dua did more with Future Nostalgia and that was her first album with some name recognition so DL3 will probably open at least with 80k in the US.

Doja has been a recognizable name for a minute now...this is not good AT ALL. She should have done at minimum 100k even with the slight switch in sound this record has in comparison to her poppier records.

That said, she'll probably have lots of longevity and accumulate lots of streams due to the singles. Agora Hills sounds like a certified hit and I can see a world in which Gun becomes a big streaming hit (idk if radio will play a song with a title like that in the US? idk).
