Sleep in half the day just for old times' sake
I won't ask you to wait if you don't ask me to stay
So I'll go back to L.A. and the so-called friends
Who'll write books about me if I ever make it
And wonder about the only soul
Who can tell which smiles I'm faking
And the heart I know I'm breaking is my own
To leave the warmest bed I've ever known

One of her best songs. Reminds me of the pinnacle of female country midtempos in the 2000s.

“If I wanted to know who you were hanging with while i was gone, I would’ve asked you” is a WAY to START a SONG

Top 3 on the album next to Right Where You Left Me, ended me on release day and I’m still dead to this day :jonny2: I literally cried just to the intro once when I got a little too drunk, like it’s just that good

The first time I heard it on the night the album came out was the moment I understood Evermore’s parallels to Red, which was my favorite album until then. I realized I could love this one even more, and by the end of the album, I did. Evermore has only grown on me with time, it’s a part of me now; this song more so than almost every other.

I don’t think anyone else could have captured this specific feeling as perfectly as Taylor did.

I always liked the song

For some reason it became my top favorite from Evermore when I saw her live in the eras tour

It elevated the track for me

Evermore’s centrepiece. Can we have more emotion in a song? I don’t think so. :smitten2:
This deserves to become, at least, cult classic with huge following.
