He’s trying to get Emma to do something, and she’s not complying. And she says to him, “What are you going to do about it, John? You’re going to cry about it? Waaah. John’s not getting his way.”

So turns out Chanel wasn’t a character Emma played, that’s how she actually is in real life :deadbanana:

Even though I enjoyed some of her performances, I hope she’s done after this. Miss thing is not all that to be acting like this.

Not to defend her but this is what pushback is. If your manager keeps asking you to do something you don't want to do, you push back. Yes, she sounds slightly rude with that, but being nice doesn't cut it in the entertainment business, that director is a grown-ass man. I feel like she's putting him in the right place, they have more to lose than her.

wow. this isn’t easy (contrary to what people think) and it’s scary to speak up when u face any kind of injustice esp in an industry like Hollywood which is v punitive.

she’s smart to leave Hollywood tbh. I don’t believe that they are nearly as supportive of POC and LGBTQIA+ community as much as they pretend to outwardly and her experiences on set speak to that. also with social media and streaming it’s not the same industry, there’s way less money being made and the studios are scared because they’re not making money and are green lighting less projects. There’s been a lot of change and I think this is just the beginning so good for her for walking away and having other outside work.

Yes to the bolded. Some neckbeard wearing a provocative shirt on set shouldn’t have taken a call to the top boss to handle. Why was Angelica the only one that had an issue with it? Inclusion and diversity my arse.

if this is how she wants a career in politics with all these acts...  :deadbanana2:

You tweeted that Emma Roberts called you to apologize for her behavior on set. How did that go?

It was a bumpy conversation. She apologized and she said, “I hate that you walked away from our experience together feeling like that. I see in hindsight what I did and how stupid that was. I’m an ally.”

I was like, “No, you’re not. You can’t call yourself an ally. [Allyship] is an action. You need to be real with me in this conversation. I’m being real with you. You were being messy.”

She said, “I hope that we can go move forward and fix this. I see you out there doing such great work out there.”

And I said, “Oh, so you see me? You see me talking about the anti-Blackness? Are you using your platform to amplify the work that I’m doing? No, you haven’t. So what kind of ally are you?”

She was like, “Well, OK. There’s more to be said there. I would love to support causes that you support.”

The truth of the matter is, I know Emma’s got big balls. I’ve seen them on the set, so I’m not surprised that she called me. This girl is no damsel in distress, ever.

Did she have any explanation for misgendering you?

She goes, “I was really just referring to myself.”

I said, “Don’t. Don’t do it.”

What happened is this: She had not allowed the makeup team to age her that much. We were supposed to be aged several years. So I knew from the makeup department about what was going on. So she comes to set and I’m like, “Oh, you look rested.”

And she goes, “John [the director], Angelica’s being mean!”

And he goes, “OK, ladies …” And she goes, “Don’t you mean … lady?”

You shaded her and she was trying to shade you back, but she was basically transphobic in what she said.

That’s what happened.

why does she have to live like a stereotypical chronically online twitter/x user :deadbanana2:

Basically the director said 'ladies' plural, to make them stop, but since Emma was not doing anything bad she said to refer only to Angelica so say "lady" instead of "ladies"

it's giving :deadbanana2:

She wasn’t. She said herself that one of the people she talked to on set said people had complaints before but that it falls under freedom of speech, so they can’t really do anything.

Whenever I had a co workers that wore shirts like that I either ignored it or tried to start a communication to get to know each other and maybe even understand each other. Most of the times this clears up any unease, and you find common ground.
What I would NOT have is done is locking myself in my trailer and stopping the work of everyone on set, including people that make way less than I do, to have my little Me!” Moment. :rip:

Okay but like… let’s be glad she’s speaking up

Speaking up to get some 15 seconds. There’s nothing really substantial here. Good luck to her future prospects because this type of badmouthing to the press will not help her

From my understanding:
lady = a woman who is refined and polite

So when Emma was complaining that Angelica was being 'mean' - and the director said "ok, ladies" and emma said "don't you mean.... lady" = referring to herself bc she's the one who's not being mean.

Basically its taking on "you're not a lady" saying, which means that you're a b****.

That’s not at all how it was said. Nobody would even take it that way.

The guy was telling them both to stop fighting and referred to them as ladies, and Emma said “Don’t you mean lady” to imply it was Angelica being argumentative and not her

Interesting. Read the whole quote. Seems like Angelica took what Emma said out of context. Emma was referring to Angelica being the only one who was being mean because unprovoked Angelica started shading her, which is why she said “don’t you mean lady?”

Oops! It's so hard to trust people's words nowadays because they will twist reality to suit a narrative and to trash someone. It's so juvenile and unnecessary.

Angelica lacks maturity and acts too quickly on impulse.

Y’all swear cuz someone is LGBT+ they are infallible! Nah, LGBT+ people can be liars, delusional, narcissistic, attention-seeking, etc. It was apparent to me this individual was going “scorched earth” as a last-ditch attempt to get attention/jump-start a nonexistent career. Hope it was worth it boo!

This is what you think pushback is? "You’re going to cry about it? Waaah. John’s not getting his way." that's some high school mean girls bullshit, mama. There is a way to pushback, but this ain't it.

I swear poppers ruined some of your brain cells cause why the hell would someone condone this type of behavior?

MTE and the people in here somehow turning this on her? typical ATRL, not surprised. I'm not saying she did everything 100% right but it's clear what type of game Ryan and the execs were playing but unlike the cast of Glee, people aren't afraid to speak up now.

Very happy to hear her speak out, and I'm glad in the same vein that the interviewer was able to play advocate with some of the questions. I think it's awful for her she had to go through these experiences on set, after everything going on in the world that t-shirt guy should have been taken off set, it's crazy to me we live in a world where that's acceptable but her tweeting or her standing up for herself isn't. It's wild. Also interested hearing her say she believes she's been cut off by Ryan for supporting Janet Mock. Ryan and Janet seem to have continued a workers relationship since she was working on Monster, so I'm not sure why she'd be penalised for supporting her when they themselves have clearly moved on. She shouldn't need to try and find justifications on why Ryan has cut her off, just know it's his loss.

Re: the Ryan Murphy thing. It seems like she fell under the trap of Corporate culture where they tell you "we are a tight close family" and then you start to believe it until you realize that you were just a coworker and no longer a useful asset.

She thought bc he was gassing her up bc of his savior complex disguised as being an ally that she had a chance at getting a producer credit for his next show but alas he's just chasing his next big deal...

And she was obviously right abt Emma Roberts  she definitely deserves to be called out!

Emma is not dumb. She knew what she was doing with that “shade” toward a trans person, but it doesn’t surprise me people wanna ignore it so they can stan white mediocrity once again. What’s there to stan in Emma ******* Roberts aside bitchery? Ryan has toxic workplace issues in every show. A show with minorities and gaining from minorities shouldn’t allow hate speech, much less classify it as freedom of expression. White cis people can get away with calling out directors right in front of everyone and I’m sure Anjelica was not allowed the same, which is why she headed to Twitter to have it her way
