After Muslim opposition, 5 schools set on fire in Belgium over sex/LGBTQ education

Five schools have been set on fire in Belgium amid anger over newly implemented relational, emotional and sex education for children.

In and around the Wallonian city of Charleroi, five schools, including preschools and elementary schools, have been targeted by arsonists, four on the night of September 12 and a fifth the following night.

Graffiti and slogans were scrawled across the walls of the first four schools, such as “No Evras”, referring to the recently approved use of the Education for Relational, Affective and Sexual Life (EVRAS) programme in schools in Brussels and Wallonia.

In the attack on September 13, the fire department found “blaze accelerants”, indicating it was no accident. “The criminal intent has been proven,” the prosecutor’s office told local media. No suspects have yet been identified.

While damage to the schools was relatively limited, the fires have been roundly condemned by national politicians.

For some days now, there has been strong opposition against the programme, largely from angry parents of the Islamic faith. Others have been critical, including Nicolas De Pape, an international medical journalist with Le Journal du Médecin.

Leading Islamic organisations campaigned against the programme and parents protested in front of the regional parliament when the decisive vote on implementing the programme was cast.

They are concerned that EVRAS may “erode” religious freedom and the rights of parents to guide their children’s education in accordance with their own beliefs.

And we have gay people that think it's OK to defend a particular religion. Every religion is a disgrace.

Yeah, but the thing is, at least in Europe, Christianity is dead. All the extremism we’re seeing is coming from people of foreign/Muslim background.

I don't care if one is dead over the other. Religion should be considered a shameful thing and prohibited in any civilized nation.

Yeah, it does seem that most extreme white nationalist parties in Europe are only mildly Christian for the sake of tradition, and don't actually hold Christianity particularly close to their platforms. The AfD, Fidesz, SVP, or either of the Flemish nationalist parties, for instance, may consider themselves to be broadly "Christian", but in a more cultural sense rather than a religious one, and they don't base much of their doctrine or extremism around being Christian.

Its not that it’s dead, but yeah the extremism in Europe is mainly happening from Islam.

This is why I’m not and get why others aren’t for unlimited immigration to the UK/Europe. Many people come over with their backwards racist, homophobic and sexist views and refuse to assimilate.

But if you acknowledge this concern you’re an islamophobe. :coffee2:

What European countries currently implement "unlimited migration" policies?

Belgium has a non-insignificant Muslim population of 5% of the total population, but most of those people have been there now for at least a generation (Moroccan and Turkish residents) and there's been no notable pattern of increased migration. Statistics show the Muslim population was over 500,000 as far back as 2005, so present numbers now at 750,000 doesn't indicate "unlimited immigration" is at play.
