BrokenMachine Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Not the 'they have the same language as her father's country!!!' mental gymnastics Like, just accept Shakira doesn't have a high moral ground and that's it. Aside from her philantropy (which could be linked to her tax evasion tactics), she's never bragged about being such a good person or high moral ground of justice, she's just an artist who gets paid to perform and won't do much more than that 1 5

But that didn't quite fit with this nonsense narrative, did it? Keep up that hypocrisy, sis.

Pinksus Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Most of the comments before this drama for "but my untouchable fave was dragged why not her??? " weren't even supporting the performance Just mocking for the 2019 messy thread Some people need to touch some grass fr

I never exposed myself. I posted a map of the Middle East and mentioned Arab countries neighboring Lebanon. Iran isn’t neighboring Lebanon. I’m part Iranian — I know Iranians aren’t Arab. You seem to be so passionately offended about the mere rumour that a singer with Arab roots might or might not perform in an Arab country, yet you still support someone who factually did it while calling herself an LGBTQ ally. Now, that's what I call full fledge hypocrisy. Edited September 17, 2023 by commander 3 1

Either that or it's just desperate trolling.

AvadaKedavra Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 (edited) According to people in the west pop artists should never step foot in middle east again cause is always problematic....from qatar to israel to egypt to dubai...... but what about all the horrible things? USA/Europe did in the past and in the present. Why artists dont get cancelled cause they live or tour in the States-Europe. PLaces with horrible human right records? Why we dont get cancelled when all our riches and money-wealth comes from labor in the third world? We cant talk about morals from other countries when our nations are not exactly saints-Pristine. Far from it. Do you want me to remind you of the past of Northamerica/Europe Artists should tour wherever they want allow them to navigate the planet MIDDLE EASTERN FANS also deserve to have a good time. They never get any tours or pop singers. I feel bad for the gays there But if i were Shakira i would not tour there. Is a Trap Chaquira. Run away we know what they want. CHECK THIS LINK https://english.ajel.sa/news/kuwaiti-parliament-member-asks-to-kill-shakira-in-saudi-arabia Former Kuwaiti parliament member Nasser Al-Dwaila has called the Iranian-backed Houthi group to attack the Colombian singer Shakira with rockets during attending a singing party in Saudi Arabia. Just to clarify, in this narrative you're fabricating, Shakira has neither performed nor vacationed in Dubai? Because we know factually, in reality, she's done both of those things. So I guess, yes we absolutely can say that about Shakira. Also, why you're acting like I haven't vehemently condemned Beyoncé's choice to perform in Dubai, I'm unsure.
Specter Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 (edited) Man this thread should have been a kii, but as expected y'all are a mess. Let's get it straight: performing in countries with immense human rights issues is an (almost) always ENTIRELY separate concern from whether the artist performing there can trace their cultural heritage to said country. I'm not sure why users are trying to gaslight others into thinking past critique of artists performing there was due to a lacuna in cultural heritage and values. Mamas, Nicki was not being dragged for being a Trinidadian artist there, PLEASE! This is also really dumb logic because a lot of the wealthy elite prefer international artists there, over uplifting local ones. It's a deliberate optics move to denote wealth and power, amongst other things. It quite literally becomes a bragging right, so to speak. I love Shakira, but this is very questionable. The "to be killed in Saudi Arabia" jokes are fun and all, but beyond that... (A separate argument is that /all/ artists perform in countries of the world with gross human right abuses, the US being a huge example of this (so many artists tour nationally and even in red states, not that the blue states also don't contribute to systems of violence equally), but that's neither here nor there. You can also argue performance =/= endorsement, but then you will have to reconcile that with your own hypocrisy of dragging some, and not others. ) Edited September 17, 2023 by Phantom 4
Simple Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Shakira is a global icon and Arabs love her, happy for the fans there 1

Jmo21 Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Im perched for the belly dancing, that is all. Can she even perform in her usual attire, or does she need to cover up entirely? Fans there will enjoy it.
