they have similar tempos, the same chord progression (I-IV-vi-V)—which is in many pop songs—and the first two notes of both choruses are the same (F# and A), but none of those were invented by katy et al. coincidental slight similarity

The way every time I listen to an Olivia song my first thought is always what it sounds like and the instrumental at the hook is very very similar and the melody there is too at some points

I didn't think of it but I remember Ghost and the songs do sound similar. Could just be a coincidence that they are in the same key.
