Solaria Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 Before I start this thread, I wanna make two things clear: 1. This is not an OGH circlejerk thread or hate thread against Gaga. She’s one of my main faves. In fact I welcome all Little Monsters to participate in this discussion and give their views on the matter 2. Before people comment ‘arts not the charts’ I put charts in the title because it’s easy but what I mean is how Gaga can make her projects be more consumed by the GP. At the end of the day numbers DO say a lot about the popularity of your project. ______ Gaga, in the modern era atleast has failed to produce a true streaming force album like a Ctrl, Future Nostalgia, Midnights, Scorpion, Un Verano Sin Ti, Sour, etc. The closest we have is ASIB, but even that album is already five years old at this point and it’s streaming numbers are still decent but not enough to have it be a constant presence on the Spotify charts or the BB200. Gaga has a tendency to debut very high but fall really hard after. I wish this was different because I like having Gaga be in the public’s mind, be really beloved again and to have her feel like people are still rooting for new music from her. I feel like it would make her excited as well, to feel rewarded. My question is: why is this the case for Gaga? Is it the quality of her music, is it herself? What are the factors contributing to this and how could she change these? Feel free to discuss and please keep it civil! 2 1
Katamari Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 The fame/monster is charting in several major music markets tho

shyboi Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 By doing what she's doing? Queen is THRIVING and her numbers keep rising

Laura Palmer Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 She doesn’t need it. She’s already made her mark. 1
GentleDance Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 Book her singles 12 months of TTH payola

Darkgalord Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 I need a new RedOne collab just to see if they can recreate some magic again.
ohwow Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 marketing, ads, more generic, more safe lyricism, positioning oneself less adjacent to queer themes, less cultural criticism, magically become younger (since ageism/misogyny is still alive), etc. her music already is fairly generic, safe, and less adjacent to queer themes (and less of a cultural critique) btw, but her lyrics on trauma for example on chromatica would have to go as well or she could just go full 'art'/experimental, but i have doubts of her pulling off such a move, plus that usually doesn't equate to chart success which is pointless and boring in the long-run anyway, but that's a different discussion
Badgalbriel Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 I think it all comes down to the music. She needs to find the right sound and the right image.
Badgalbriel Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 And she needs to become a more interesting celebrity as well. I feel like she lost her cool factor and now acts as an old lady all the time.
Shimenawa Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 She's 15 years into her career, i don't think she's going to get a renaissance unless a movie is attached to it. But even with ASIB, she didn't tour that album or even bothered to release a second single so she doesn't care I think..

Archetype Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 She needs to collab with Sky Ferreira and get a quick hit so Sky is allowed out of Capitol’s basement
Reginald Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 Her fans care more about the charts than she does, which is unfortunate. Sis brought out BLACKPINK for their first Western collab and didn't even promote it. So disappointing. 1
VeniceBeach Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 She needs her own folklore that will reestablish her in the eyes of music critics and make the fans go crazy about her again, she has a big fan base and what she's missing is a "classic" record with a new sound 2
Mr. Stratus Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 (edited) She has longevity issue since BTW, but has multiple songs like MR HMH and ARUTW that had bad peaks or didn’t chart at all in certain countries but got certifications. So, more timelessly written bvallsds in the streaming era not cheap throwaway pop people use with 20 year olds. Maturer music. Miley is going that route and also her own ‘folklore’ like @VeniceBeach said Edited September 13, 2023 by Mr. Stratus
Dojas Attantion Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 (edited) She’s irrevelant in 2023. Her last era looked like parody of her 2009 self. Even this year’s MTV VMAs proved she have no place in current music market anymore. Her stans busy with compare her to doja cat these days… Doja cat would eat her alive on stage and as musical acclaim. Edited September 13, 2023 by Dojas Attantion 4
Aston Martin Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 (edited) I honestly don't think she wants it that much anymore. She basically left Chromatica to rot outside of 1 VMA performance and post-album music video, whereas other artists who released around the same time (Dua, Weeknd, ect.) actually extended those album cycles out another year. I don't think we're getting another album pre-Joker either. But to answer your question, her best work is made when she has competent people working with her and the music is written and recorded in a relatively short amount of time. Sometimes she'll sit on a song too long and make some unnecessary tweaks (Free Woman demo vs released, Manicure demo vs released, ect.). So the best way she could get a streaming juggernaut album would be to make a genre of music she's actually passionate about with co-writers and producers that know what they're doing and make it in under a year. Some of the darker lyrical themes that she's covered on Chromatica are actually quite relatable, and I think if she channeled that energy into a genre of music she had more authentic passion for (because it kind of seems like she's over dance pop), then I think it would have more longevity. Like if she came back with an ARUTW-quality single, it would be game over. But I think she's going to concentrate more on movies once the strikes are over. And I'm fine with that; I love her movie eras. Edit: And seeing as she released one of her biggest career-defining hits a decade into her career (Shallow) I do think she has it in her if she wants to. I'm just not sure if she does.
