she is not a sex symbol to gay men and most people of color... but she is one! there are levels to the "sex symbol" label and it mostly depends on how much the artist wants to play into it. Taylor has established a happy medium for herself where she portrays the all-american girl next door, but can do a seductive move or two or a steamy music video when she fancies. she's never going to show up to a red carpet with her nipples out or talk about giving head in a song. I doubt she wants to, but even if she did, that kind of drastic shift in image rarely go down well with the general public. I don't think she'd be willing to sacrifice her Miss Americana crown to do anything too racy.

Taylor was the biggest artist of the 2010s and is the one of the 2020s by really far, Madonna was not the biggest artist of the 90s or the 00s

 

Only in their first decade Madonna was bigger and Taylor debuted pretty late in the 00s.

 

Taylor is bigger 17 years into her career than Madonna was 17 year in.

 

Not downplaying Madonna she’s a legend and is definitely the most impactful female artist of all time.

 

But Taylor is objectively bigger commercially when we analyze their careers.

The only metric you have to claim Taylor is Bigger than Madonna are streaming numbers and chart numbers.

And as you said about Madonna's sales, don't play  fool pretending that Taylor didn't peak in a time when chart metrics does favours to her, because that's absolutely true.

But how do you fail to see that also can be said “Madonna is bigger than Taylor in sales, because she peaked when pure sales where huge”? It is basically the same of what you are saying, but opposite. 
 

You are aware that someone saying that Madonna should be matching Taylor’s streaming numbers would be ridiculous, right? The same applies to Taylor and her pure sales, it is impossible to expect someone getting those sales in today’s climate and landscape. And her sales are pretty great for someone who started her career after pure sales have diminished heavily. 
 

The bottom line is that their music is nearly equally massively consumed relative to their musical landscape.

No. It’s nothing to do with being sexy. Sexy doesn’t suit her any way. She can be elegant and feminine, but I would never see Tay touching her puss puss while singing and dancing. 
 

she is just relatable to teens, adults and even kids. You can say she played it safe, but also she knows when it’s the right time to do things. She takes everything seriously and can tell

when there’s an opportunity to grow even more. I mean it wasn’t random at all the way she put out midnights in between rereleases. It takes a brain or two to understand that her and her team know what marketing means. She doesn’t take more than 2 years off music, she doesn’t change her sound drastically (rep was an attempt, but even that was quite in her lane), she is consistent and keeps giving her fans what they want. I agree her image isn’t as sexualised as artists like Madonna, Beyoncé or Rihanna but she does sex her image up often. 
 

She did Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show twice, and has videos like Lavender Haze or IDWLF which are very sexualised. 
 

 

The secret to Taylor’s longevity is she constantly reinvents herself, works hard and has a strong connection to her fanbase.
