James got exposed so badly by regular citizens that the employee expose wasn’t even necessary :deadbanana2:

I do remember an audience member saying somewhere he wasn’t really friendly with the audience when cameras were off but idk that’s not really a huge expose

I always couldn’t stand his corny ass

I'm over these flustered ex-employees 'exposing' their former workplace... why is it they spill only after leaving? Be thankful someone was putting food in your mouths you ungrateful f**ks!

EVERYONE complains about their former workplaces... every.single.person

I went to his show last year in the audience and the member that mentioned the forced laughs and reaction part this is absolutely true, it’s annoying to some degree.

The crew seemed very relaxed tho, and he was nice behind the scenes at least that day

I obviously don’t know what he is like with his people when no one is around but I personally didn’t get any shitty vibes

I went to his show last year as well and he was a really stand up guy... it was his first show post-lockdown with a full live audience. He even interacted with us, got close up IN the audience during break and answered some questions.

Yeah in my experience there was absolutely nothing negative other than the forced audience reactions which every talk show has.

And the crew was super friendly and from what I remember very relaxed

Not saying this is BS or anything but if it’s really that toxic they all can act extremely well for the people who attend

Amazing how the focus of these "exposés" has gone from actual abuse and exploitation to generalized meanness and now "erratic behaviour".

next step is "my boss told me i have to work"

Sorry but now every time I read one of these “exposés” of a mean celeb boss I kinda roll my eyes :skull: Like if they’re being actively abusive that’s one thing but… don’t we all kinda hate our bosses?

I think some people who work behind the scenes in showbiz go into it thinking there won’t be any disputes or petty behavior like in normal workplaces. I really am not interested in defending Jimmy Fallon or any mean boss but it feels like the writer was particularly interested in puncturing his “nice” “fun” image a la Ellen, which we all knew was a façade. I don’t know, I just don’t really feel that bad for the workers because far worse s**t happens in your average blue collar job.

Isn’t it kind of an open secret that he struggles with addiction? It’s basically what they’re implying in the article, too. Not saying that’s an excuse to treat people terribly, but has no one close to him considered trying to get him to get help?

It is funny how all of these television hosts turn out to be just gigantic assh*les.

NOOOO... this is sad if true because he always treated kpop idols and foreign non-English speaking celebrities with respect and tried to be nice to them compared to other talk show hosts (i'm looking at you Jimmy Kimmel).

Abuse in the workplace is never ok and I feel like it’s trivialized in society but it’s a serious problem tbh.

It’s never ok but at the same time I don’t think I’ve read anything from the Ellen or Jimmy Fallon accounts that was unlike something I or a colleague has been told by one of my bosses, and I’m only in my twenties. Yes it should be talked about more. But the reporter is framing it as some giant exposé of a tyrant when the behavior being described is just… mean? Not unique to Jimmy Fallon. But he’s a celebrity who does cheesy skits so it’s supposed to be shocking.

I’ve had jobs in toxic environments and reading this alone tells me everything I need to know about the environment

With an ever-changing cast at the top, employees say they had nightmares related to work and were in a constant state of fear. One former employee says they had their first anxiety attack while working at the show and were put on anti-anxiety medication for the first time. Another employee says they felt physical ramifications of their declining mental health, like their hair thinning and weakened nail beds. Four other employees say they are in therapy because of their experiences. Three people say they experienced suicidal ideation as a result of the working environment.

“Mentally, I was in the lowest place of my life. I didn’t want to live anymore. I thought about taking my own life all the time,” one former employee says. “I knew deep down I would never actually do it, but in my head, I’m like, ‘Why do I think about this all the time?’”

One employee says they lost nearly 20 pounds during their time working under showrunner Granet-Bederman, felt like they were on edge all of the time, and cried themselves to sleep every night.

People seem to think a bad job means someone comes in everyday screaming at you but sometimes it’s more covert than that esp if it’s an environment of fear and manipulation and intimidation. The buck stops at Jimmy (whether it was him directly or not) because it’s his show, he’s the leader.

And here’s the tea! It’s a big problem everywhere. The more we talk about it in general the better - make it more transparent and talk about it.

Why are so many of these "happy, relatable, spread kindness" talk-show hosts such asses behind the scenes?

Late night/morning show/game show television seems like one of those spaces where you have to appear happy all the time and where nobody actually is.

I think it’s kinda a “low brow” space for a lot of people who saw themselves being major actors/actresses/writers, or major interviewers, who instead have to do a lot of family friendly fluff content.

I went to see a taping of Steven Colbert’s late show and there’s just a clear level of fakeness there.

Or maybe (as someone has worked in a cousin of a restaurant) you can accept  your boss in a moment of big pressure, cause there are 180 persons out there, can Scream to you "come on, you have to be faster, you're too slow" instead of "sweetheart take all you time you want, we have all the time" cause it's just work. Doesn't mean he doenn't respect you or he wants you dead cause he's severe to you in some moment. Same with teachers. Of course there are situation of abuse but now seems everything Is abuse and some people are too soft (or to full of themselves and don't accept to be criticised).

And honestly, Jimmy isn't in charge of the entire show... he's also just an employee who shows up to do his job. I'm not saying I know the guy personally, but like c'mon these articles are aimed directly at the host bc they know it will get them more clicks.

The way the 2010s boys and girls talk show hosts are all getting cancelled or falling from grace.

Ellen

James Corden

Wendy

Jimmy Fallon

:rip:

Kelly and Drew better do better!

Drew is one of the nicest celebrities ever, and I think Kelly is too but I know her show has had some bad attention lately.

There's always someone above. Jimmy doesn't own the show or the network, so no... he is not the 'leader' but a mere employee who also just comes in every day to do his job and leave after.

Seems like Fallon's drinking has corrupted his behavior over a long period of time, and he's still hot and cold as is the case with alcoholics or binge-drinkers, whereas Corden was always known to be a cruel self-loathing insecure gnome without the aid of alcohol. imo Corden's worse.

Lol it’s literally HIS show of course there are execs at NBC but did you read the article? The entire culture was contingent upon his mood and whether he was hungover or having a good/bad day… that is literally a leader.

people who make excuses about toxic and abusive workplaces make me LOL… just goes to show that in a capitalist society there will always be people who don’t mind being mistreated in a workplace because there will always be some sort of excuse as to why it’s ok or why it’s not the fault of the people who are in power. Meanwhile people in the article saying they had to go to therapy or lost 20 pounds due to how toxic and stressful the environment was.
