I used to be very religious as a kid because my parents would take me to church every week, but now I'm quite in two minds about it.

I do believe there is something out "there" (whether it is a God or aliens, or a simulation, or it's a concept that humans simply cannot comprehend yet, whatever)

I feel like it was made up in the past to control people, not in a bad way, but the concept of god and heaven must have lowered crime etc. and it did help build the moral foundations we still rely on today.

 

I also feel like it was given as an explanation for the questions we don't have answers to yet, how are we alive? what happens when we die? etc.

 

The idea of a god doesn't make much sense to me and I don't get why I'm supposed to believe text from so long ago where all these miracles happen when nothing like that is happening these days, as if god got shy and deactivated their twitter or something.
