This is not the first complete mobile chip not produced by one of the companies above. But it's one of the firsts. If China is capable of mass producing mobile chips just as powerful as Qualcomm and TMSC, they will be completely independent from those companies. Qualcomm and Apple (and Google now) design and order chips from TMSC to manufacture them. They have the manufacturing technology. Samsung is another who manufactures. US sanctions are backfiring in a way. They pushed China to advance their chip production processes and now they can completely independently make a top-of-the-line smartphone without importing parts (especially the processor, which is the most expensive component). Plague Posted September 5, 2023 Share Posted September 5, 2023 This is good for us consumers. Now many Chinese phone manufacturers might turn to them for these processors. That will make TMSC lower the prices but also push Samsung to serve better production or they are out of game. They are already predicting that the prices of upcoming phones will go up but if this will really work out for them we might see cheaper phones soon.
