robattack332 Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 (edited) This was the finale of the Paparazzi MV playing out in real-life for her. Wheelchair, New It Girl, and all. Edited September 4, 2023 by robattack332 1

Sondheim was right for calling it terrible. We're all free to have our own opinions, but I don't get this as a critique honestly. The Sound of Music isn't an opera, nor is it a musical commonly produced by opera companies like Sweeney Todd or A Little Night Music. The score has a classical approach as do the vocals, but none of it goes into full opera really. Lyrical intelligibility and communicating a story are made more important than a true bel canto style in basically every major production. A semi-operatic approach makes sense. And there's no discernable regional accent? I think that's just when she goes into a more covered vocal placement mixed with rounded vowels. 3 4
G.U.Y_Del_Rey Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 (edited) But wow what a moment no one will ever forget, a moment that is most pleasing to her in her career. Edited September 4, 2023 by G.U.Y_Del_Rey 1
CaptainMusic Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 I knew it would be this Oscar performance and it definitely did redefine her career.
ugo Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 (edited) It shifted public perception and helped her gain recognition at the academy Edited September 4, 2023 by ugo

Not to mention the first duet with Bennett happened during the BTW era, her acoustic piano covers have always been part of her performances since the beginning of her career showcasing her vocal abilities, that Lady Gaga has always been there, who claimed otherwise clearly never paid real attention to what she was doing. 2 1
chosensparkles Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 the dramatics from her haters, we know your faves aren't capable of doing what she did she literally switched the whole perception people had of her after ARTPOP everyone called her over and a hasbeen... and yet she's still here selling out stadiums and theaters, starring in big movies and one of the most respected musicians ever 1 1
JustLikeHoney Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 Ima B honest. I didn't t really like this moment. It was nothing compared to MTV Paparazzi Live.

Peroxide Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 I remember watching this and my jaw hit the floor. She DEVOURED here… easily one of my favourite live performances from Gaga.
aesthetic bih Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 I remember this being a news in my country during a time she was boycotted after ARTPOP

DunawayDuchamp Posted September 4, 2023 Posted September 4, 2023 The Sound of Music performance was like something out of Glee (later seasons). The best part was Dame Julie Andrews emerging from the shadows in a big surprise. 1 2 3
