Is very niche today She should move with the trends Max Martin's recent output has been garbaj and he clearly isn't the surefire hitmaker he once was, what is this OT: I think once the GUTS first week/day numbers come out, we'll know for sure. BIR wasn't exactly the most commercial choice for a single (neither is vampire tbh) so it's 'underperformance' is somewhat understandable. If I had to guess she'll probably be successful but more local from here on out Edited September 2, 2023 by Billionaire
Antikythera Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 Thing is: nothing lasts forever and we won't have 10 pop girls having huge careers at the same time. I think the market was really depressed during covid and now we see everybody doing a stadium tour and the #1s going crazy, but the trend is that it will come back to "normal". The record companies live off making the idea of a star. Years ago getting a grammy was something "hard", now everybody gets one (but Katy). The songs for to #1 easily, then it is an oscar song, this and that, she is the best, she is the new someone, she is the moment and then she is not anymore and there is a another new shiny pop girl. 1

It's actually pretty hard to get a #1 in the Hot 100. Taylor only had one for Midnights (Anti Hero). Billie's had only one so far in her whole career (Bad Guy). Olivia has three.

Billie in one year had all the grammies, #1s, Bond theme. Now watch Britney or Xtina being boycotted during Slave and Dirrty.
MingYouToo Posted September 2, 2023 Posted September 2, 2023 olivia has reached a point that is sadly early on in her career where there is an already built in audience tuning in to her work and big enough that she will always debut with big numbers regardless of whether or not said release is a cultural phenom or not. vampire was lingering in the top 3 of the uk charts then went #1, vampire and bir? are all smashing in the hot 100 top 10. she may not be making celebrity waves but she is absolutely holding commercial power. SOUR is literally the biggest female album of the 2020s yall need to relax a bit on your standards.
blueberries Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 I guess she'll have 3 successful eras then slowly disappear from the media like Alanis and Avril But then again she has more pop appeal than them so who knows, she might reinvent herself and have longevity like Taylor
Bosque Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 Idk but I think artistically she shows promise. Bad Idea Right is great even if it flopped badly. Let's wait for the album first but at the moment she is kind of losing steam
Trainwreck Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 Yes, she's talented enough to build and keep a strong fanbase and also she's interesting/relatable enough to get non-fans to give her music a stream or two. She has a long way to go but her future already looks very promising.
applestar Posted September 3, 2023 Posted September 3, 2023 there's hardly any competition and BIR could not defeat the hicks on the chart its over i fear
