Olivia Rodrigo talks about plagiarism, doesn’t confirm or deny Vampire is about Tay

FameFucker is a pretty obvious lyrical shot

It is!....to the much older man that started dating her when she was first exploding on the scene, to which several other lyrics, especially about his age, on the song express!

i find it highly hypocritical that taylor and jack demanded credit considering cruel summer is a rip off of a kpop song :giraffe:

Right... the way this is WAY more similar than the "shouty" part of deja vu

Girl, this is ATRL. Ask to delete your account if you are not aware what this place is about.

Ah but I know very well that it is atrl and it is a forum. Forums usually discuss and you need to be able to support an argument. I think those who lack this skill should delete their account, at least until they have developed a minimum capacity for reasoning.

Considering how Olivia is still on great terms with St. Vincent it's pretty clear Taylor was the one who went after the credits.

Swifties in here are a joke pretending like there is actually anything sue-worthy about Olivia shouting in a similar fashion to Taylor for 5 seconds. Now if Hillary Duff or Lana came for Taylor for actually copying full melodies y'all would be singing a completely different tune

This!

Taylor is so shamelessly greedy. She’s probably one of the richest celebrities today and still went after a newcomer who’s been singing her praise the whole time? Where are Lanas credits for Without You?? This is so embarrassing for a woman her age and status.

Swifties saying she’s using Taylor for PR, the interviewer brought it up not her. Also, that’s the least she can do after Taylor stole her money.

Her and Billie definitely need to vacation or find better boyfriends because they both come off incessantly miserable which is ironic given they’re the biggest Gen Z girls. I really miss when pop girls liked to have fun and showed it in their music:rip:

Olivia reminds me so much of those theater kids who took everything someone said to them as a personal attack and were always crying in the bathroom at the school dance.

Like, Christ. Everything is framed like a movie where she’s the main character and she’s being persecuted by shadowy evil forces (i.e. the Disney corporate suits, mean critics, music peers, social media, society.)

Very this energy

Personally, I loved the response and thought it was perfect, she gave the jobless a purpose today to spread the word and remind everyone that the album is near and ended it by indirectly denying the rumors…

Vampire is obviously not about Taylor. :skull: Please be for real.

But I do think there will be a song about Taylor on the album :gaylorcat2:

Didn't Jack literally say that they were told they'd be credited for Deja vu? You have to be really stupid to think someone as big as Taylor would care about this one song's credit, knowing how something like that would only bring her negative PR

Olivia is smart to keep her answers vague, that's good promo for her album but her team has handled this situation poorly overall.

Wait those 50% wasn't a stan joke? Damn, bloodsucker indeed

794Pif5.gif

The 50% has been in the public record for a long time now.

DEJA VU
ISWC: T3040252942   Work ID: 911318713
Total Current ASCAP Share: 55%

https://www.ascap.com/repertory#/ace/search/title/deja vu/writer/CLARK ANNIE?at=false&searchFilter=SVW&page=1

Olivia and Dan are represented by ASCAP and the original credits would have been split 50:50 between Olivia and Dan. Their share got cut by half by Taylor and co, leaving them with 25% each and the other 5% is Annie, who is also represented by ASCAP.

CRUEL SUMMER
ISWC: T9296703770   Work ID: 898247627
Total Current ASCAP Share: 10%

https://www.ascap.com/repertory#/ace/search/title/Cruel Summer/writer/CLARK ANNIE?at=false&searchFilter=SVW&page=1

Jack Antonoff and Taylor are both with BMI, so the 10% ASCAP Share represents the share that Taylor and Jack let Annie have.

So this means Taylor generously let Annie have 10% for inspiring Cruel Summer.

But when Cruel Summer inspired Deja Vu, someone decided that it was worth 50% of the credits.

Somehow I don't see Olivia offering 50% for that small part of the song, and I don't see Annie leading the legal action, when she was only going to get 5% out of the deal. I guess it's a mystery.

Quote

[Jack Antonoff:] “I had never met her, and I had never been in a room with her. So it’s interesting… because another song on that album, that was an interpolation of [the Antonoff co-written Swift song] ‘New Year’s Day’. But yeah, it came through the channels that the bit on ‘Deja Vu’ was inspired by that bridge and we were going to be credited, and I thought that was really cool.”

Of course people will say that Jack was covering for Taylor here or technically this doesn't mean Taylor didn't serve Olivia with a C&D, but whatever. When the facts aren't all out in the open, y'all can cherrypick all you want...

Now we are waiting for Taylor to drop her Swish Swish as a response to Olivia's Bad Blood :jonnycat:

wether olivia stole from taylor or not, it truly showed how much of a bad person taylor is by the way she decided to humiliate and take 50% of the credits from a teenage girl who looked up to her and just debuted...

mind you, cruel summer is a rip off of the prechorus of this song too lmao

taylor truly is taking everything from asian girls :celestial5:

This white lady pushing 40s, instead of enjoying her billions and polluting the planet. Went to ask for 50% royalties from an underage Filipina, all while crying about Scooter taking her masters. The only thing that rich privileged middle aged woman cares about is her bank account and f*cking racist British men. Hopefully she will utilise millions she stole from Olivia on some signing lessons. So she stops screeching like a dying cat in front of live audience for 3 hours.

Why would Taylor claim royalties over that song and then say they were not aware the credits were coming. Olivia literally decided to give out the credits (50% for both Deja Vu and Good For You) because of the social media posts

I don't know about y'all but that sounds like an answer to me?

Some of you all desperately need to learn PR language. Of course she isn't going to come right out and emphatically say "no no no it's not about my goddess Taylor Swift" because that could and would be misconstrued and turned into something else. She's perfectly succinct in saying she doesn't want to go into the topic of who songs are about, but in that last line confirmed that she was surprised to find out people thought it was about Taylor which pretty openly says that it isn't.

Interesting timing with her album being released next week. Her PR team could have made the topic/question off limits. :gaycat6:
