PopNStuff Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 Taylor is just on a different level. Her peak keeps on growing, and her cultural moments become bigger. That can't be said about Britney nor Gaga who experienced significant decline after their first two eras. And the Beyonce erasure is disgusting. Beyonce is having one of the biggest tours ever and created cultural moments this far into her career. After Taylor, Beyonce is next.

Taylor is known everywhere Gaga was weird and off putting so she has an excuse for falling off but Britney was "relatable American girl next door" like Taylor but still fell off hard

JustLikeHoney Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 (edited) Britney's peak was just her first two albums. So 1999 to 2000. Her third album was a low seller at that time in 2001. Stripped that came out in 2002 sold more than the Britney 2001 album. Gaga - cultural peak Swift - commercial peak Edited September 1, 2023 by JustLikeHoney 1
Orsay Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 Gaga’s was just way cooler and more exciting even if Taylor’s is probably the biggest by pure numbers But also I was too little to really witness Britney’s which I’m sure was also massive
CandleGuy Posted September 1, 2023 Posted September 1, 2023 49 minutes ago, EmailMySwift said: Again, how is it not debatable? Britney was not a radio force. She was not a touring force, not even when Madonna blew those doors open in the mid 2000s. She was not an award show presence outside of the VMAs (has she ever even performed at the Grammys?). She didn't succeed outside of music to become omnipresent through movies or other means. Shew as a very popular teen pop act like how Justin B was during his Baby days. Just because something was in the past doesn't mean stans get to rewrite history and aggrandize it. None of this is "cultural". Cultural would be level of fame, what percentage of people would recognize her name or her face, iconic pop culture moments, fashion/style influence, media presence. No one compares to Britney at her peak in this category. 1

She wasn't able to continue the momentum or dominate multiple aspects of the entertainment industry simultaneously

At her peak and before her tabloid scandals, Britney couldn't even get people to watch her specials on TV. Britney Spears Interview A Ratings Dud For ABC November 14, 2003 According to the Drudge Report, Britney Spears’ interview on ABC’s ‘Primetime’ with Diane Sawyer failed to ignite ratings, getting only an 8.1 rating/12 share and falling well behind NBC’s ‘ER’ with a 24 share and CBS’ ‘CSI” with a 29 share. Other specials that scored lackluster ratings were CBS’ “Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show” and ABC’s Britney Spears special. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2003-nov-26-et-tvratingstext26-story.html Edited September 1, 2023 by EmailMySwift 1

She had already sold dozens of millions of units before Taylor even debuted. The fact that Taylor caught up to her and has since left her in the dust is extremely impressive Arguing certifications in the year 2023 Certs would lead you to believe Midnights has only sold 2M in the US despite it rapidly approaching 3X that 1
