WildAmerican Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 ugh. ironically tho most of the states that have enacted shitty laws are not even worth visiting in the first place. 5 1

Beyonnaise Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 I mean, Canada isn’t all rainbows. I’d feel more comfortable being gay in a city like NYC than rural Alberta. 1
byzantium Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 "Some states have enacted laws and policies that may affect 2SLGBTQI+ persons" What does this mean? This is why I use the word queer. I can't keep up with the evolving letter (and apparently number?) chain. 2
Raver Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 As a gay man I’d rather be in the USA than Canada that’s for sure 1 1

bad guy Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 (edited) Yeah ok. Canada and it’s constant pretending like they’re way above the US on social issues will always be hilarious to me no matter how “inclusive” their racist president is in his pre-written speeches But nobody would put out travel advisories for Canada since nobody goes there. Yall had Trump and US citizens wanted to move to Canada. Not to mention abortion was repealed recently the bar is not that high for any country to surpass on social issues. 1 3

"2S" (Two-Spirit) has always been in there just not always at the front. LGBTQI+ is right there after it, and I'm pretty sure you've seen that before. 2 1
swissman Posted August 30, 2023 Posted August 30, 2023 (edited) A lot of these rebuttals don't really say much except that you don't understand what a travel advisory actually is and does. Canada can have its own problems and the travel advisory can also put this out. Plus in this very article it states: "The largest LGBTQ advocacy organization in the United States, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), has declared a national state of emergency, citing the proliferation of legislation in state capitols aimed at regulating the lives of queer people." So why wouldn't it be included in the travel advisory? Edited August 30, 2023 by swissman 3 4

Canada can have its own problems and terrible people and the travel advisory can also put this out. Are any Canadian provinces doing what they say some states are? This very article states: "The largest LGBTQ advocacy organization in the United States, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), has declared a national state of emergency, citing the proliferation of legislation in state capitols aimed at regulating the lives of queer people." Can we all start using the 2S in front of LGBTQIA+? I just read about it and I think it would be respectful. 1
Popular Post youreyesgocold Posted August 30, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 30, 2023 As a Canadian I am literally offended at half the comments in here. The patriotism in the United States is too powerful I suppose Y’all can enjoy your lack of gun control and government officials trying to pass laws that treat the lgbtq like they don’t exist. Go ahead and defend that all you want. “That’s not my state” or “all the states aren’t the same” be damned. That’s your country. We don’t pretend we’re better than anybody - though based on many of these comments Americans sure act like they are. The irony. There’s a reason most first world countries around the globe side eye the US. I’ll leave it at that 5 11 1
