Is that what you tell people that self-harm? Self-harm is not about logic or rationality or valid reasons tf 1 1

Which is understandable for a Netflix show. On top of that, the show targeted vulnerable and incredibly young audiences and often lacked adequate and resourceful information about what teenagers should do that are in a similar situation as Hannah. That made people worried at the time.

Self-harm is not about logic or rationality or valid reasons tf you're absolutely right that self-harm and trauma can't always be reduced to logic, but that wasn't really my point. What I was trying to convey is that the portrayal of such complex themes in media can have varying impacts, especially for a vulnerable youthful audience that might go through the same experiences. That can definitely get regarded as glamorizing or airbrushing depression and suicide. How the show handled those themes, without always giving adequate information about treatment, was the point of my initial post. Edited August 25, 2023 by KatyPrismSpirit
thetea Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 the show should've only been 1 season. it was literally about why hannah committed suicide and the 13 tapes explaining why. everything else was unnecessary and strayed too far from the original message of the show. i also feel like the show did a poor job of discussing the harms and pain that surround suicide when they decided to go the teen drama route for the rest of the show. 2
Miles. Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 It ended horribly, but the first season and a half were actually pretty good. Off the top of my head, Riverdale and Sabrina were MUCH worse. Also all those CW superhero shows, especially Legends Of Tomorrow and Supergirl. 1

Ivan_brit Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 NO Season 1 was perfect Season 2 was fine the other ones are meeehhhh but overall Im sure there are worse series 1

Well, as you replied in less than a minute and based on your comment: you seem to have your mind made up so why bother making the thread? Anyway, still the answer and the general feeling is that it is NOT the worst show of all time, and if you think it is then you should probably do yourself a favor and consume more art, good and not so good. It'll do you good.
harwee Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 (edited) I only saw the first season which ended with 13 reasons but it felt like it kept going for no reason (no pun). Edited August 25, 2023 by harwee

tshwark Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 It was bad, but because of the novelty you could give it a pass the first season, the rest is even worst and forgettable.
Starkboy Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 1st season was actually good. 2nd was bad. I didn't bother to watch the rest but I'm sure there's worse. Riverdale for sure.

Yes I could’ve sworn it was always just meant to be a one time limited series. Tbh I thought it was a great show, and I cried at the end lol. So so sad, a lot of characters were done sooo dirty lmao like Winston christ I could deff relate to that story line a bit 1

nostalgic Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 (edited) The book was fantastic and season 1 was a decent adaptation. Everything afterwards was just typical Netflix garbage that should have never been made. Edited August 26, 2023 by nostalgic
umich Posted August 25, 2023 Posted August 25, 2023 There are several shows on BET+ by Tyler Perry that are way worse, so no.
