Nelly's "I'm Like a Bird" won a Grammy but "Say It Right" didn't. Did talent win?

Nelly Furtado wrote the melody and lyrics of "I'm Like a Bird" by herself which makes it even more special and iconic

What did "I'm Like a Bird" have that "Say It Right" lacked?

Did talent win?

I have to disagree. Critics, the GP, the Grammy Committee, etc all seem to disagree with you.

I fear not

She wrote the lyrics herself

She wrote the melody herself

It went top 10

It won a Grammy

Imagine doing that with your debut single - Say It Right had no chance I fear:superman:

It's so insane how much of an impact music truly does to you

Not even a Nelly Furtado fan but both those songs take me back to such distinct moments and memories in my life

Back during simpler times

And as well as this song

Say It Right is the better track. I'll never forget the first time I heard that song - I waited for the third chorus, but I was given a mini guitar solo instead.

The guitar solo slapped though :superman:

Idk, ILAB sounds like a Grammy-winner kinda song to me if that makes sense. A perfect choice for a debut single, even

On the other hand, Say It Right was (and is) for the 'arts' girlies, I fear :jonny:

The nation of Germany doesn't agree with you. Say it Right was voted the new national anthem in 2007.

9 weeks at #2

Having the #1 album of the year and #2 and #3 single of the year

Folklore going multiplatinum there and being a top 5 best seller of 2004

They really loved her

Yes! Even Manos hitting #2 there and The Spirit Indestructible going top 3 there with 2 top 30 hits

It's crazy how they loved her more than Canada

SIR totally deserved a grammy. #justiceforSIR

I love them both but they each give me different vibes. ILAB is a bit trendy hoppy (still a great song!) imo while SIR has a timeless appeal to it. That song takes me places :jonny:

When in history were Pink and Shakira the biggest artist when it was peak Christina, Jlo, Ashanti and to some extent Beyonce who were ruling the decade.
