I think if there's one thing social media has done its remind us these people we uplift as bastions of morality and allyship - for whatever the word is worth now - are fallible and not worthy of worship nor should they be expected to be.

Kill your heroes and all that.

Not to mention, everyone nowadays is claiming to be an "ally" or even "queer" themselves without ever having to state what their actual views or attractions are. It's all for clout/PR/money. Not everyone has to be or needs to be an activist, but everyone blonde women lip synching to a dance beat shouldn't be held up as an "icon" without doing any of the work.

Some of them certainly are :celestial5:but I imagine most of her fanbase to be middle aged gays who don’t use queer for themselves

@Sugden I don't want to police the OP but just giving a suggestion to include the post.

This thread's big enough to justify mod intervention if not.

I doubt they’re that old enough to be considered “middle aged”.  Most are 25-45 gays in big cities like NYC/London/Berlin

regardless all queer means is “lgbt” so it doesn’t really matter if they use that term or not.

@Winged going through the thread and disliking every post I made, I struck a nerve huh :ahh:

They're pro-Dr.Luke and disliked every pro-Kesha post when it came to her and Luke so this isn't surprising. Something needs to be done about the terfs on here.

I don't know why some of you feel the need to play defense for her. Either you agree with her claim 80% of trans people are not actually trans and there's an intentional scheme to "mutilate" cis gay people, or you recognize her as deeply invested in a hate movement.

When did she say that?

For me, I'm more interested in people's rationalisation of the topic & celebrity views/morals.

There's a huge disparity of how people take to this & her response, versus how I perceive it. I'm sure my fav (Beyonce) believes a few crack pot theories, is socially conservative in one way or another, but she's smart enough to be extremely private and vague in how she navigates any political topics, and isn't going to run private facebook account with her actual name or post anything that will come back to bite her :rip:

From Rosin's response, she clearly did not think this would blow up in her face. Whether through suspecting it would remain private, or through thinking being critical of hormone blockers is not controversial or be seen as transphobia.

Where there are deductions about Rosin's intentions and logic (Why did she do this in the lead up of her album, why does she hate her fans, She shouldn't speak if she's not expert), which steer far from grounded, I feel it valuable to offer my account of reality. I give celebrities the same grace I give the people around me in my life. I don't think it does anyone a favour to go full hyperbole, both in the emotional response we internalise or through condemnation of the accused, societally I think it slows down progress. I can echo what everyone else is saying in that it's disappointing but I'm not disappointed and only slightly surprised. Rosin has and probably still be a force for good as long as she doesn't go full JK Rowling, which clearly she won't from her statements, she intends to keep :-x

well, clearly she doesn't care. The LGBTQIA+ community who is not transphobic should stop care about her as well

They're referring to including this in the OP itself, not just the title:

Arca's conversation with trans actress Sophia Lamar, less than a year ago.

Quote

S: It’s slightly controversial with children on hormones, puberty blockers and things like that. It’s become like a fad. When you’re very young, you don’t really know what you want. 11 year olds are too confused. I think that people should wait until they are later in puberty, you know, when they are like 17, 18.
A: I agree. I started so late.
S: Me too, me too!
A: Really?
S:  Yeah, I started really late. I was very confused. I only started taking hormones when I was 26.
A: I was around the same age, maybe a little bit later. That’s so cool. By that point, it’s like you also have to be so brave. I remember I had this phrase, I would talk about indirectly in my work way before beginning my transition, but it was as if I was like, dropping little hints to myself, imagine someone leaving notes. I don’t know how to explain it. It’s as if my lyrics only made sense to me years later. It’s as if something inside of me wanted to bloom and it wasn’t giving up.

I wouldn't be so sure she's talking about Róisín.

I'm sorry but this is blown out of proportion :rip: She should not have said anything but opened a large can of worms. Sounds uneducated about the topic but we all can learn. I'm not going to "cancel" her because of one misstep. People online are excited to shred celebrities for any missteps and cheering for their downfall.

Even Gaga has so many haters online. Social media is getting out of control

Uhm yes it does because not all gays/lesbians or bisexuals are queer.

Doesn’t “queer” just mean… gay, lesbian, bisexual (or pan ?), or trans?

How can you be one of those but not be part of the umbrella term that encompasses your identity?

It is very important to note that while the word queer has been widely reclaimed as a term of pride by many within the LGBTQ+ community, including sometimes as another way of discussing the community as a whole, this is not universally true. Some people avoid it due to the term’s origin and its legacy as a slur, or for other reasons.

theres a lot of discussion regarding the label queer and queer theory in sociology

Considering 'queer' is an umbrella term for the LGBTQ+ community, yes they are.
