The only thing I got out of it was ‘I don’t make music for you gays, but if you like it that’s cool’ :bibliahh:

Mind you she said hairless toys was a tribute to ballroom culture and inspired by paris is burning.

so even that’s just a straight up lie

She just replicated the "please stop calling women that word 🙏🙏" sentiment by using all the "oh no how could this happen I'm just a poor vulnerable woman :'(" words she could. Opening the non-apology with "I'm very uncomfortable in this discourse" when she literally started it with faux concerns :rip:

No way did she just double down and told her fans to f*** off :deadbanana4: Oh well... Good luck to her career

the fact that that opened the floodgate for "gender critical" bigots to come into the replies and call every queer person who is calling her out a "man who is enjoying knocking down an upset woman" like.. this is so calculated and cold...

It was something that had been on my mind. I knew my friends were informed about the topic.

This part confuses me so much, cause it reads like her friends are knowledgeable on trans issues and she therefor thought she could comment on said issues, but it turned out she was too uninformed after all

BUT it could also mean SHE thinks her friends are informed on the topic and she said exactly what they were saying, which is “trans children shouldn’t get medical care”

In which case she’s surrounded by transphobes? :psyduck:

Unfortunately this wouldn't be surprising at all given how rife it is in the UK and Ireland

From what we know, the post she commented on was by a DJ, she's the one who shared Roisin's comment on twitter in the first place. She was debating them and there was another person involved in the twitter thread sharing the screenshot that said "it was a good debate, I hope she [Roisin] learnt something" - clearly she didn't if she still considers her views "fixed" but anyway.

“I am a transphobe and regret getting caught being one” :skull:

Of course she’s uncomfortable being called out for her bigotry, but she has the privilege as a cishet person to jump in and out of the discourse as she pleases. She created this controversy and decides now to keep her mouth shut but remain ignorant while the Glinners of Twitter fight her battles for her agains the community she has profited off for over two decades. Trans and queer people don’t have that privilege — nobody is fighting our fights for us and the ignorance that leads to Róisín’s views festers amongst likeminded bigots.

She is choosing to remain a transphobe in private and willing to neglect to educate herself in the hopes that we just continue to stream her music. Don’t misunderstand her position or her intentions with this vile statement.

the unbothered “apology” :ahh:

i wonder if miss Terfhy realizes or even cares how badly this is impacting her future career? I mean isn’t she a Jessie Ware type figure where 80% of her small fanbase is queer :rip:  speaking of Jessie, i know she’s BIG mad that she just released a collab with her, i wonder if she’ll say anything about it

I think this is honestly a pretty glaring example of how straight people can align themselves with the LGBT community for their career but then decide to wash their hands of us at any moment and retreat back to the comfort of their straight privileged life.

Even if she has “concerns” about trans youth healthcare (that suspiciously fell in line with fear-mongering right wing narratives) that statement did nothing to imply that she’s willing to actually engage with the issue, she really just said she’s happy in her bubble of ignorance and isn’t leaving :skull:

Yeah the unwillingness to even challenge her views and look into the subject matter is very upsetting. At the very least she's not going to speak on this anymore so hopefully terfs online won't clinge onto her

Posted (edited)

So… essentially “I’m sorry you’re offended but I have I zero interest in changing my perspective or engaging in any meaningful discussion with queer people about my horribly misguided transphobia”

Cool.

It's really such a shame, I've grown to really enjoy so much of her music this year and now I feel just awkward when her songs come on and this apology did nothing but to enhance that awkwardness.

Posted

what an embarrassment, and anyone that defends her is just outing themselves too

Let's be clear, this is a (albeit very polite) doubling down, and a willingness to severe ties with a lot of fans. I would have been ambivalent if it was that one post then she moved on, followed up even in this non-apology with some context about being open for discussion on the topic even if she likely wouldn't have changed her views or stayed skeptical.

But there was none of that, here nor there. Which makes me think that the dupe account mentioned on PopJustice IS actually hers. Do better to keep those accounts private - that's the devil's advocate in me for PR lessons for public figures. But that aside, this is no R.Kelly scenario sure, but I'm moving on. I was never a die-hard fan, but had gotten into her discography more a few years ago. I'm sad but won't be wasting too much more energy on this. There's a much bigger conversation to be had here on transphobia in the UK. That's all. So long, Roisin.

Is this the personal FB account that she was referring to? Or another account?

Do you agree with the opinion she reshared that 80% of trans people are actually exploited cis gay people? If not, surely such harsh language in said "opinion" makes it clear why people feel uncomfortable she essentially says she agrees with such and only means so out of love...

I don't agree with that at all, nor the wimpy manner in which she doubled-down with that pinned post, but I never was waiting on her to change her mind in the first place.

What exactly is the "doesn't" part? Because this wasn't an apology. This has nothing to do with 'parasocial relationships' and everything to do with a famous person, who has a large platform and huge queer following and who is sharing openly ignorant and transphobic views. Instead of trying to educate herself is digging her heels and refusing to listen. People are rightly disappointed and disgusted with her behaviour.

I've agreed that fans and non-fans alike are justified in their disappointment with her, as I am. But I also didn't vote her into office, she's not a politician, she's not an arbiter of justice or change. The opinion she shared is still a common one and not even particularly radical, just extremely out of date. I'm not going to lose sleep over a boomer not changing her mind. She's been a bitter mean old hag and her fans supported her, she's been arrogant and stubborn and loudly wrong a lot and her fans supported her. I'm surprised by none of this week's revelations about her. I said damned if she does and damned if she doesn't because people are calling this a non-apology even though she apologizes in it. They're ignoring where she says literally says sorry for hurting her fans, because it's apparent that it wasn't the apology that mattered; what they wanted was to feel like they'd changed her mind, for her to admit she was wrong. In my opinion, that's a losing battle. Even if she said she changed her mind and learned something new, y'all would claim she was lying to save face and keep her fanbase and their coins. Maybe I'm too cynical?

the fact that she replaced her fanbase of queer folks who actually support her with people who just discovered who she is because of this scenario and won't stream a single song :ahh:
