No, people like to call out ignorance and transphobia. If you weren't trying to twist it into misogyny and dropping buzz words like 'woke', maybe you'd figure that out.

No you folks don’t simply like to call out ignorance, you live for it. And it’s honestly getting embarrassing because it’s so so obvious you love finding new scapegoats because that’s the only way to constantly find a source to feel morally superior/good about yourself  :rip: If you’d read some of the posts here without knowing what roisin posted you’d think she’d shot a trans child in daylight. She made a stupid comment, and it’s time to realize A) we don’t know any of these celebrity no matter how niche they are that you feel some special connection to them, and B) that we should move on.

Some of the “I ******* ❤️ science!“ posts here cracked me up though.

if us humans dont get to decide our gender at birth then what is wrong with trans kids deciding their own gender before puberty? i think it's annoying that terfs are just like "okay you're born as a man so you must abide by these rules and body standards for the rest of your life." it's really messed up and backwards, especially when us humans have no choice of the sex we are born as. if someone wants to change their body's gender presentation for whatever reason, who cares? it's their decision, and if they regret it they can go back and change it.

So you agree with her stance that "over 80% of trans people are just mutilated cis gays"?

Never liked her, I always got an uncomfortable vibe from her.

Is it really that hard to educate yourself and post a statement, apology? I educated myself on the topic and now I know why her comment got reactions it got, it really wasn't that hard. Her silence and weird behavior such as pinning the random comment and wearing black to a show is disturbing and make me sadder with each day. She's choosing ego over her fans

Meanwhile in reality what she actually did was post an incredibly ignorant and transphobic comment, then doubled-down on it. Ignoring transphobia doesn't go away, especially when people with large platforms spout it. But hey, if you want to act like that's fine and diminish the reality of her remarks, that's fine. It just gives us more of an insight into who you are.

And aside from what you pointed out, what makes the reaction to her comments so heightened, much like JK Rowling, is that Roisin has countless LGBTQ+ fans who literally feel betrayed by her comments. Whether someone places too much belief in a ~celebrity they don’t know~ is besides the point, if an artist you looked up to for their supposed positive approval of queer and trans rights suddenly revealed to you that actually, not only do they think the opposite, but are doubling down on their ignorance against the pleas of other fans, you would be mad and upset as well.

Acting ~unbothered~ about the livelihoods of trans individuals is not something I would take pride in.

seeing the word "woke" unironically get used in its right wing context on this website really just makes me believe even more that right wing propaganda has spread even to queer spaces. its ******* scary.

The people most upset with her are her fans - do you really think we were waiting for the right moment to cancel one of our favorite artists? This started with her FANS hoping this was all just a misunderstanding and waiting for a clarification - when Roisin said nothing, many fans decided it‘s more important to stand with the trans community than to support Roisin.

Basically, “I want to continue profiting from gays so I’m going to keep my transphobic views private from now on”.

Disappointing. I’ve seen Róisín live a few times and have bought her records but I’m skipping her next one.

She basically says - no, I don't make music with queer people in mind so if you feel like my comment hurt you and you're not a fan anymore feel free to go

:cries:

Her justifying everything with love is such a homophobic / transphobic parent thing to say, it's sad that she fails to recognize the optics of it all.

So the "social-media firestorm" was heartbreaking for her to see... a single post from her could've prevented all of that from happening. But she decided to go radio-silent for days.

A very poor apology to not even mention the trans community or to face head on what people are upset about.

This reads as doubling down to me.

Let's be clear, this is a (albeit very polite) doubling down, and a willingness to sever ties with a lot of fans. I would have been ambivalent if it was that one post then she moved on, followed up even in this non-apology with some context about being open for discussion on the topic even if she likely wouldn't have changed her views or stayed skeptical.

But there was none of that, here nor there. Which makes me think that the dupe account mentioned on PopJustice IS actually hers. Do better to keep those accounts private - that's the devil's advocate in me for PR lessons for public figures. But that aside, this is no R.Kelly scenario sure, but I'm moving on. I was never a die-hard fan, but had gotten into her discography more a few years ago. I'm sad but won't be wasting too much more energy on this. There's a much bigger conversation to be had here on transphobia in the UK. That's all. So long, Roisin.

Yeah, you're right. She said she was not informed on the topic, but doesn't even manage what -or who- she was talking about. Not a single mention of the trans community. It feels insincere, especially after such a long time.

how is she going to miss the point THIS badly oh my GOD. I am in shock at how she decided to handle this, there is NO way I can ever in good faith support her anymore.
