Arthoe Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 14 hours ago, Trent W said: The problem is we actually live in an oligarchy rather than capitalism. Capitalism is theory works fine, but it’s been corrupted and turned into and oligarchy in the last decades. We need a whole new system were average people don’t have to worry about health, food or housing. Its fair that some earn more(if they actually add value) But the people at the top are just nepo babies from previous generations that keep corrupting the system. There will probably be a series of revolutions if things don’t change soon for the current generations The oligarchy is the most common rule of capitalist states though, because the oligopoly is the most common form of market in capitalism. Very few people control almost the entire markets of everything. The point of free-market capitalism literally nepotism, it's keeping wealth within your bloodline/very select few people while also giving you the illusion of social mobility. ("If you just work hard enough and exploit yourself enough, one day you might be on the other side and be one of us exploiters"). The more I think about it, the more devious that illusion is. It used to incite conflict between working class peers. If you have a bad day at work, and you're not as "productive" as you could be, you'll always get chastised and gossipped about by your co-workers who are on your level first, before anything even reaches middle and upper management. The amount of times I have heard other working class people complain about other working class people "faking being sick", their perceived inability to work, colleagues who take "way too long vacations", the list goes ONNN. The prospect of class ascension is always dangled in front of our noses like carrot in front of a donkey. And people make us believe that we have to undercut other people, obstruct their success and destroy them in order so we ourselves can thrive. How things are running right now, that's how they are SUPPOSED to run under capitalism. The cruelty did not develop over time, it ALWAYS was a feature. 10
worldwide angel Posted August 16, 2023 Posted August 16, 2023 anti-capitalist thread i hate to be pessimistic but uhm the future is not giving, i know voting is somewhat controversial but i need the girls to show out for 2024. i think roe v. wade woke up some people, but people's insistence on being nasty will be the ruin of us as a species 2
DAP Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 The exploitation and disempowerment of the masses are bad enough, but the brutality and scale of violence, destruction, and displacement inflicted by states beholden to capital lends context to capitalism as a system that must be challenged if we are to endure as a species. There’s a host of great (and sobering) literature on the matter that I implore everyone to read if you have the time (I’m reading The Jakarta Method right now). 1
poki Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/17/homes/mortgage-rates-august-17/index.html The year is 2036. Only 3% of Americans in their 20s are home owners. The Senate (who's average age is 97.8) are discussing why are Americans are poor and refuse to have families. College tuition skyrockets one more time.
