i dont even know Mary that well but i feel like she's the obvious answer and the only one attributed with that title. Beyonce and Mariah experimented a lot musically and Janet doesn't have the vocals

The queen of R&B is Janet

Mary J. Blige is the Queen of hiphop-soul

Mariah Carey is the Empress of pop

Where is Alicia Keys in the poll  ?

She just achieved her 14th no.1 hit on Adult R&B earlier this year - extending her record for most No. 1s among all acts (male AND female)

I’d agree it’s Mary J B also, essentially.

Mary has the influence (basically pioneered hip hop soul) and the longevity. Even Mariah, at the peak of her career, wanted the respect Mary had in R&B circles.

I think Brandy's sound is very much pure R&B for me: her tone, harmonies, grooves, lyricism.

Erykah Badu or Alicia but Brandy from the poll

Janet has 16 number ones on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart, so her.

Um, Aretha Franklin.:coffee2:

She is ranked as Billboard's most successful solo artist on the R&B/Hip-Hop All-Time Chart.
