Taylor Swift - '1989 (Taylor's Version)'

i'm sorry but taylor nation HQ will be receiving an in-person complaint if taylor and them decide no lead single AGAIN is the way to go for ts11 :suburban:

i can understand it for the TVs (besides ofc snippets of the stolen versions so ppl get an idea of how some of the recreations sound), and it was a cute chaotic lil gimmick for midnights, but i'm throwing hands if the future of her album promotion is limited to tiktoks and announcements of the 15th variation in a different color with 2 new photos :biblionny:

I’m not ready to revisit THEEEEEE reputation… my most played album EVER even after the last four years since Lover. Her crown will never be snatched I fear

Damn I'm obsessed with "Now That We Don't Talk"

It should've been #1 over Is It Over Now

ReputaTV will debut with 1 million but have Her biggest ever second week drop.

all the cards would have to be stacked in her favor for her to hit 2 million. like…late night shows (which is unlikely but she did it for red taylor’s version so who knows), a massive hit (anti-hero level) and a vast pre-order time. signed cds, etc etc. it will have to be her best album campaign.

i think she definitely can do it. but it’s not as guaranteed as people make it seem. i already think the fact that she did this twice in the streaming era is crazy, so if she falls short of 2 million it’s gonna be considered an “underperformance” which is crazy to say cause nobody else is pulling these numbers.

but then again, not many people batted an eye when lover “only” opened with 860k.

I feel like she wouldn’t bother with it since the Eras tour/movie has been so successful and she’s already slayed first week sales. The single release seemed to be spur of the moment/streaming demand which means she probably has remixes/singles planned for all of the vault tracks and they just chose the most popular one.

Then again, I was wrong with her doing anything for Cruel Summer so who knows. She probably has enough material to keep this era going if she doesn’t want to do any actual promo by releasing droplets.

To me, the smartest thing she could do would be to finish the re-releases and put out TS11 and then do the eras PT2 tour and build on the momentum.

kinda concerned about the crazy expectations for the follow up to midnights. i mean, the fact that she was able to do these numbers with midnights and 1989 is already impressive enough. i know not to doubt taylor but these 2m+ expectations floating around are just absurd. if anybody can do it, of course it’s her but i feel like she’s prematurely being set up.

Taylor has made all of us numb with the insane levels of success she's been having of course, but I don't think 2M+ is really that impossible for her to achieve:

'1989 (TV)' sold 1.36M in pure sales and that's without signed copies, which contributed around 100k to the first week of 'Midnights'. If '1989 (TV)' also had them, it would've sold 1.46M in pure sales. Then her new albums usually have more SEA units too and 'Midnights' did 420k in SEA units and I really don't see TS11 getting less than that, unless it's a short album.

So in this hypothetical scenario, TS11 with '1989 (TV)'-like pure sales & 'Midnights'-like signed copies + SEA would have a debut of 1.88M already.

With some extra promo + considering the fact that her pure sales are growing ('1989 (TV)' did >300k more than 'Midnights' excluding the latter's signed copies), and 2M is within reach. :lakitu:

No, i really think she'll hit 2M+. If a RE-RECORDING can give her her best debut week sales ever, an whole new album post-Midnights/Eras Tour/re-recordings can definitively do it. The pure sales AND streaming numbers will be insane.

do you think she should release a lead single or not?

Absolutely not. Releasing a single before the album would set her up for what people will THINK the whole album sounds like and if people don't like the song, the hype would deflate really quickly. Releasing the whole album at once like she did with Midnights is the best way to go.

I don't think it's a question of quality at all, people are just too used to the original versions.

HDD predicted Jung Kook at #2 with 140-160k. No numbers were given for 1989 TV though. We can only expect it's higher than 160k.
