my cd came in.

i held my 1989 TV photos in one hand and 1989 photos in the other. and these represent the girls who are still in the running towards...i mean,

the new ones are so cheap and flimsy. glad i didn't order multiple to collect them all.

Insane numbers, TS11 can definitely do 2M first week if everything goes right, Reputation will probably be somewhere in the 800k-1.1M range
She needs to come for Adele, we need 113 different variants, 1M signed copies etc :ryan3:
Im kinda sad that this means we're never getting a lead single again :emofish: I love the time between the lead single and album release

Also i'd really like a country breakdown for that global 3.5M number, not doubting Republic but would be interesting to see where the numbers come from
US+UK+Canada is probably 2M alone
Im assuming a lot is coming from South East Asia but hard to track the album sales there

Let's be honest: the only reason people hate Sl*t is because it's a ballad. People were extremely excited about that title and made up theories about the song being a mega-banger like Blank Space or even a straight up sexual song. It's not Taylor's fault that you guys made up those theories in your heads and hyped yourselves up that much just to be disappointed. I've said it before many times: NEVER judge a song by its title, it doesn't mean anything :toofunny3:

I mean many people already decided the song was gonna be bad the very moment they learned it was a ballad, even before they actually listened to it. That says it all really.

it’s really like when Midnights didn’t live up to people’s expectations due to the photoshoot but honestly, Midnights could’ve sounded like anything … we didn’t get any snippets

That fact that there’s only a handful of female artists who have one 1 million copies sold during debut week, and Taylor has SIX :deadbanana2:She isn’t even in a league of her own anymore, she’s in an entire galaxy all by herself.

This outdoing the original is insane, truly. I mean, this is THE 1989. :jonny5:

I just know Sc*tt Borch*tta has been having the worst week ever, and that means I’ve had the best week ever. :clap3:

kinda concerned about the crazy expectations for the follow up to midnights. i mean, the fact that she was able to do these numbers with midnights and 1989 is already impressive enough. i know not to doubt taylor but these 2m+ expectations floating around are just absurd. if anybody can do it, of course it’s her but i feel like she’s prematurely being set up.

I had to email them for a shipping estimate and they told me they won't start shipping until December :rip:which is such BS.mp3 since I've seen people already with it and I ordered it the first few hours

I ordered mine the first 2 minutes. Literally no exaggeration. And people who ordered hours after me got theirs. Lol

Same here, I know she was "only" 300k off but that's still so much. I guess if she has a lot of signed copies and actually promoted

all the cards would have to be stacked in her favor for her to hit 2 million. like…late night shows (which is unlikely but she did it for red taylor’s version so who knows), a massive hit (anti-hero level) and a vast pre-order time. signed cds, etc etc. it will have to be her best album campaign.

i think she definitely can do it. but it’s not as guaranteed as people make it seem. i already think the fact that she did this twice in the streaming era is crazy, so if she falls short of 2 million it’s gonna be considered an “underperformance” which is crazy to say cause nobody else is pulling these numbers.

but then again, not many people batted an eye when lover “only” opened with 860k.

The sales of 1989 (Taylor’s Version) were enhanced by its availability in 15 collectible physical formats: five color vinyl variants, eight CD editions and two cassette editions. Of the five vinyl variants, Target carries a color variant that includes one bonus track (“Sweeter Than Fiction”). The album is also available to buy in two digital download editions: a standard 21-song version and a deluxe 22-song version (which adds a re-recorded version of the album’s “Bad Blood,” featuring Kendrick Lamar). (Notably, Swift did not offer an autographed edition of the new album to purchase, as she did in time for the first weeks of her last three No. 1s: Speak Now [Taylor’s Version], Midnights and Red [Taylor’s Version]. Signed editions of her albums are a major sales driver.)

before the album? not really. it hasn’t really been shown to be beneficial to release a lead before the album comes out. in fact, it might be a hinderance given how endless summer vacation and scarlet performed. lol. and with big artists, drake has released a lead for his last few projects. and especially with her loss and for all the dogs, the leads ended up not being as huge as other songs that the public just chose (jimmy cooks and idgaf outperformed the lead singles upon release). i think it’s smart to release the album as a whole like she’s been doing.

it was a good idea to let people pick the radio single for 1989. but with a new album, i’m assuming they would need to have at least a few music videos already in place. so that’s a whole nother story.

I liked her strategy this time around of dropping a well known re-record single (Wildest Dreams) and then a deep cut that is usually one of the least streamed off the original (This Love). It gave people a greater appreciation for This Love.
