I was surprised to see the mixed reception for this one... and then I wasn't.

Further proof of a deep generational chasm that divides ATRL into two camps; the twentysomething pop sophisticates with 15 to 20 years of top-shelf pop consumption to their name, and an unruly kid crew with Scream Queens avatars and tributes to Joe Alwyn in their signatures. It's not that the latter generation is a lost cause entirely, but they've clearly never heard a "Taylor" — that is, they've never encountered a voice quite as distinctive as Taylor's. "But I know Taylor! Lover was the first album I bought!" First off, ask for a refund. And no, you don't know Taylor, you know a very stilted and subdued version of the iconic performer.

The Taylor of "Wonderland" is Taylor as Taylor is intended to sound. She very skillfully vacillates between a range of tones; she nasally, then guttural, then grainy, then nasally again, then delicate. (And yes, that's how she's supposed to do it.) She's sultry. She's goofy. She's sounds slightly absurd. She's fully engaged. She's expressive in ways that "technically superior" vocalists just aren't. She is brilliant. You have no idea how brilliant she is.

This is the probably purest attempt Taylor has made to harness some of that ineffable charm that made her early work so irresistible. I adore it

The fact that this was probably said about pretty girls makes it even funnier. Now can you find the post about the pink font in Beyonce's self-titled being a special, symbolic kind of pink? I need it to drag people criticizing the 1989 tv cover :ryan3:

Say You Don't Go reminds a bit of Eurovision songs. :biblio: Now That We Don't Talk is catchy.

It's literally the only song that was just added, all other 49 songs were added 5 days ago. Her payola blackmail industry connections know no bounds

I I I I, I I I wish, I wish, I
I I I I, I I I wish, I wish, I
I I I I, I I I wish, I wish, I

You always knew how to push my buttons (I I I I, I I I wish, I wish, I)
You gave me everything and nothing (I I I I, I I I wish, I wish, I)
This mad, mad love makes you come rushing (I I I I, I I I wish, I wish, I)
Stand back where you stood (I I I I, I I I wish, I wish, I)
I wish you would, I wish you would (I I I I, I I I wish, I wish, I)

I wish you would, I wish you would (I I I I, I I I wish, I wish, I)
(I wish you would, I wish you would) (I wish, I wish, I)

2 A.M., here we are
See your face
Hear my voice in the dark

We're a crooked love
In a straight line down
Guess you wanna run and hide
But it made us turn right back around

I wish you would come back
Wish I'd never hung up the phone like I did
I wish you knew that
I'd never forget you as long as I'd live

And I wish you were right here, right now
It's all good
I wish you would

This cinematic, religious, urgent moment :wanda:her peak as a pop songwriter I fear :ryan3:

Which is exactly how I know Billy Board WILL be counting every copy sold of 1989 TV

Not to nick pick, but I notice she fumbles a lot of the ad libs on the re record for me. It's honestly a bigger annoyance to me than the production on most of these songs. Especially on 'How You Get the Girl', 'AYHTDWS' and 'Style'. She randomly eats up the 'New Romantics' and 'Bad Blood' ad libs though.

:clap3: to her for getting the "STAY!" on AYTDWS right though. I was really scared after how bad the "weeeee" was on WANEGBT on Red TV. :monkey:

I kinda don't want 1939 to outsell Godnights

How are we supposed to say she peaked with her tenth album when her fifth album is demolishing everything 9 years later?

Or maybe we should embrace the OTH narrative that re-recordings count as new albums and say she peaked with her 14th album. I bet they won't like that

The way IION would easily be the #1 song on AM rn... The two versions are charting at #10 and #23 respectively

It would have been number one in the past 3 days. Really a whole week and they can't combine it. The biggest company in the world. Never happened for so long before, they always fixing it after a day or two.

Anyway, on another note, they added IION? to Today’s Hits on AM at number 2.

Kii I was about to say this. TS15 (or TS17 if it comes after Debut and Rep) is coming to be her repeak. What a journey (1989>Midnights>1989TV>TS15+)
