Like i still don't get what they were trying to do here . Like no attempt whatsoever to make it as good as the original :deadbanana2:

This is one question I've wondered over, how many different takes did they do for these rerecordings?

Something to do with him refusing to re-record music he’s worked on.

That would make sense then ,he's probably one of those artsy types who think its not worth it if you're not creating anything new(though i'd argue most of his productions sound the same anyway :rip:)

Okay, so I got through my first complete listen and here are my thoughts…

1. “Welcome To New York (Taylor’s Version)”: Slightly better than the original, those adlibs in the final chorus are bliss. 6.5/10

2. “Blank Space (Taylor’s Version)”: Just as good as the original and still pop perfection. 9/10

3. “Style (Taylor’s Version)”: Ouch… this new production is not it. The vocal delivery is there but the mixing is… yeah. The original is a 11/10 and one of my favorite Taylor songs ever. 7.5/10

4. “Out Of The Woods (Taylor’s Version)”: WOW!!! What an improvement over the original and it makes that seem useless now. 11/10

5. “All You Had To Do Was Stay (Taylor’s Version)”: Pretty much identical to 2014’s and glad to see the high-pitched “Stay”s are almost exactly the same. 7.5/10

6. “Shake It Off (Taylor’s Version)”: This is an improvement and I honestly can see myself having a better time listening to this. The growls during the spoken interlude and bridge are a moment! 8/10

7. “I Wish You Would (Taylor’s Version)”: Not as punchy as the original but it’s fine. Just a slightly different type of song now. 7/10

8. “Bad Blood (Taylor’s Version)”: Mmm… well, her vocals certainly have more fire but I don’t remember that cowbell in the original at all. Why on the “You and I” line is she almost screeching though? 7/10

9. “Wildest Dreams (Taylor’s Version)”: Yeah, this is definitely an improvement and we love it. We been knew. 9.5/10

10. “How You Get The Girl (Taylor’s Version)”: This is my least favorite on the original 1989 and I will admit, this is better. Thankfully that annoying synth is gone from the chorus here. 6.5/10

11. “This Love (Taylor’s Version)”: Just pure bliss. I mean, wow, who else’s soul is levitating?. 9/10

12. “I Know Places (Taylor’s Version)”: Aside from the distortion on the intro, this is better. This is truly a magical tune, huh? 9.510

13. “Clean (Taylor’s Version)”: Okay, I was nervous considering this is one of Taylor’s songs that means the most to me ever…. But she delivered!! It’s even better than it was in 2014 and her more mature vocals add vibrant emotions. 11/10

14. “Wonderland (Taylor’s Version)”: That final “In wwonnderrlannnddd” on each post-chorus makes this already better. Damn, this punches. 7.5/10

15. “You Are In Love (Taylor’s Version)”: Honestly, I can’t tell the difference between this is the original and that’s perfectly fine. 8/10

16. “New Romantics (Taylor’s Version)”: Okay, the “Ah-ah-ah-ah-aahhh” is a bit off but other than that it’s damn faithful. I’ve seen some people say she sounds like a man in the verses and I have to say that I disagree. The chorus’s production might be a bit too loud. 9/10

17. “‘SIut!’ (Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault]”With the title “SIut!” I honestly was expecting something much more edgy than a midtempo love song, but regardless, this is nice. 8/10

18. “Say Don’t Go (Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault]”: YYYEESSSS!!!! I freakin’ adore this and it should have been on the 2014 album. It’s giving “You’re Losing Me” somewhat too. 10/10

19. “Now That We Don’t Talk (Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault]”: Well, this has an interesting song structure. I get what she’s saying but the lyrics are nothing she hasn’t said in other songs before. 7/10

20. “Suburban Legends (Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault]”: I’m sorry but this kinda sucks. Both the lyrics and delivery are giving slam poetry and its attempted to be saved with the production, but even that doesn’t work because it goes nowhere. 4.5/10

21. “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault]”: I’ve always wanted her to do a track like this! A 1989-type song that builds up in anthemic production. The lyrics are kind of a serve, though I wonder if “maiden” originally was a different word like “h**ker”. 8.5/10

Overall, this is most definitely her strongest re-recording yet. However, it does have its flaws and “Suburban Legends” is one of her worst songs ever in my opinion. I can not wait for reputation (Taylor’s Version) because clearly she can re-record her pop bops very well and I have to know what’s in that vault.

The vault tracks just sound like midnights rejects.

Put the vault tracks in a playlist with midnights (standard or complete edition) on shuffle and there is barely a single difference in sound

They have lots of time to get it right but a lot of it just sounds like  ,"This is the best we can do" and moving on :rip:

Beautiful goddess! Blank Space is so good! Style was starting off to be good until the chorus.

oh you're right i remember sth like he doesn't wanna re-create something he's already produced.. well it's his prerogative.
