Just finished and WHEW have so many thoughts but I must retire for the evening. So ecstatic to finally have this album and so much fun to experience it tonight reading through everyone's posts and thoughts!

Yeah the Vault songs really do sound like they belong more on Midnights (or even Reputation) than 1989. Like, were these songs even made for 1989? Makes me doubtful lol.

 

She really set herself up with the Red Vault... You couldn't get more immaculate than that. It's all been downhill from there. And the label's obvious requirement to keep this to two LPs really pisses me off... Vault should've been much, much better for such a monumental album.

The first 6 songs threw me so hard. This is the only Taylor rerecording I've listened to so maybe thats why I was so thrown, but it gets better from I Wish You Would onwards which basically sounds identical to the OG. Style is an absolute atrocity tho.

not everything has to be perfect and I'm sure I'll like this a lot better later on

 

it's a decent project, some songs were improved which I thought she was not capable of, she saved Clean, I Know Places, Out of the Woods and All You Had To Do Was Stay and she gave us two new bops (Sl*t! and Say Don't Go) so I'm happy with the results - however she does need to drop Jack. it's all sounding a bit too samey and that'll bore people at some point.

I do get those saying the production isn't quite in line with OG 1989, but a lot of the melodies are (especially SDG, SL, IION). If anything, the production reminds me of Jack's work on rep (Getaway Car, Dress, maaaybe CIWYW). But not Midnights bffr  

Now That We Talk beats sound like Bejewelled, Suburban Legends production is similar to Mastermind, plus the other tracks give me Bigger Than The Whole Sky vibes
