This is tricky to answer because I have a few qualms with the title of this thread:

1. Just because a person doesn't like an album, for whatever reason, doesn't mean they don't understand the album's concepts, lyrics, or even have a basic appreciation for the production of an album (if the album genuinely received great reviews, and the person is objective and goes into music with an open mind, for example).

2. What defines an album as "intelligent"? Is it that the artist uses big words? Is it that the album talks about controversial and/or poignant topics such as depression, anxiety, etc.? Is it that the album has a lot of layers, and people only see/understand the album (mostly) on the surface?

I define an intelligent album as an album that has many lyrics, that is extremely creative in its lyrics and production (and/or both), and usually has a socio-political message. And the thread is asking for an album I deem intelligent that the GP can't understand.

I guess what immediately comes to mind, unfortunately, is Ye by Kanye West. I wouldn't necessarily say Kanye is intelligent by any stretch of the imagination (well, in regards to his politics, which are Ben-Shapiro-level-awful), but before we knew Kanye jumped off the deep end, Ye was seriously fire and still is, yet it's scored low on Metacritic.

M.I.A's MAYA is low on Metacritic yet it's her 3rd best album. I don't get it. MAYA also inspired Death Grips (whether the duo wants to admit it or not), and I also appreciate it for that reason.

None of the ones that are going to be listed on this thread. That's for sure

LOL you called it. Thread is full of unserious replies. I've only seen maybe 2 or 3 acts whose albums fit the bill here.
