PoisonedIvy Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 Preacher’s Daughter by Ethel Cain. Watching the general population react to it is always embarrassing, considering most straight cis white peoples can’t even comprehend most of the themes and motifs of the album. Not to sound pretentious but it’s true I fear 3 1
BOOMBAYAH Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 When it comes to music, there's this distinction between what I'd call "intellectually" acclaimed and "critically" acclaimed. For instance, you've got artists like Sweet Trip and Justice, who've made albums that music industry people and fans both rave about. But these artists often miss out on the awards and mainstream recognition game, getting most of their props from reviews and discussions. On the flip side, we've got the Beyoncé’s and Taylor Swift’s of the world. They're no doubt celebrated, but their acclaim seems to ride heavily on their mass appeal and icon status. Their music's solid, but it's not exactly turning the industry upside down. Even their more daring tracks usually take cues from the artist like the first group (intellectually acclaimed). But then there are those artists like Daft Punk and Lorde. They're kind of a perfect blend of both worlds. Their music gets people talking, while still being thought-provoking. They manage to strike that balance between appealing to a wider audience and keeping their artistic vision intact.

FOCK Posted August 9, 2023 Posted August 9, 2023 Back To The Woods - Angel Haze And no, I’m not kidding. The album is a masterpiece. Vulnerable, grim, personal, beautifully written, poetic, haunting production & gritty, sincere delivery. Am yet to hear anything like it. 1
